Did I make a mistake?

Patti,
To be honest I don't know. If I posted a bunch of pics could you tell? Somebody once guessed that she was an F6 when I showed her more pics. I seriously don't know how she came to that conclusion but whatever. She doesn't look like she would be close to illegal status. Of course I may not know what the hell I'm talking about being a newbie to this breed. LOL

Melissa, I'm the one who told you your girl was probably an F6 or F7, based on my conversations with the woman you got her from....Nikita is a Savannah, originally from Pharoah's Pride cattery (no longer in existence). So yes, she is definitely legal in your state :)

I hope things work out well for Nikita and your new kitten...I've had success with the pheremone collars made by Sentry, for a girl of mine who was peeing inappropriately. The collar worked I think to calm her down...almost like she was high, but she stopped peeing everywhere ;) The collars are definitely worth a try!

Keep us posted!

Too funny. I was checking my old emails to remember who it was that gave me this information, and here you are. Excellent timing. Thank for clearing that up for me. I wasn't sure what you based your guess on.
Trish,!! Yes I do have an update and instead of saying anything I've decided to post a quick video on YouTube and you can tell me what is happening here. As soon as YouTube let's me know that it's ready I will post a link.

Thanks,

Okay well that was quick. Gotta love youtube. It's not the best quality but it was on the fly because I never expected it. it's only a minute long no worries. ;-). Let me know what you think of this change in behavior. Thanks all,

I also realized that she's getting a little heavy. I never noticed until now. I play with her frequently but she never gets the chance to run to fatigue. I need to get a harness with a long leash and give her a chance to really run around.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the lack of clarity, I was multitasking and not very well obviously.

So my first question is about the change in behavior. Since yesterday Nikita seems to have accepted her at least on some level. You may not be able to tell by the video but she is licking or cleaning the kitten. I don't know what changed. But since I had introduced them early I decided to just go with it but under supervision. During the day when I'm not home I quarantine her to my bedroom. At bedtime I have to put her in the bathroom.
Tuesday morning when I went to let Samantha out of the bathroom Nikita walked up, sniffed her butt and proceeded to hold her down and I guess clean her. It was hysterical. The kitten was a bit reluctant but it was definitely a step in the right direction, right? So my question is "is that it?" lol I'm not saying they are best buddies but has she been accepted at a level where I don't have to watch her every ten minutes if they are alone together. Or am I way off base?

My other question was about the fact that after watching the video I just realized that Nikita has put on weight. I will be more aware of her food intake but she's in an apartment all day. She doesn't go out and get the benefit of running around the yard. You can only go so fast in three rooms. Lol I wanted to perhaps get her a long retractable leash so I can take her out and she can run around and burn off some of that energy. I was just wondering how others handle taking out their cats with respect to safety and health issues.

Btw somebody has mentioned to me not to stress over this. I'm truly not. I haven't had pets since I was a child and find this so fascinating and rewarding in ways that I didn't expect. But the fact is I have no real experience, just common sense. Hence all the questions. Thanks again for all of your help... :)

Well I certainly think you can begin to breathe easier. That's a good start to forming a friendship. Keep supervising their play dates for awhile longer. Nikita appears to be accepting the kitten and looked as though she was playing gently in the video. Just need to wait a week or so to be sure the kitten can stand up to some rougher play should that occur.
