Brigitte has hit every point I was going to make. These people are clearly practicing false advertising by using the 'Savannah' label in tandem with the 'wild' and '*kitten' labels so that they can charge outrageous prices. They are also obviously using Highland Lynx in their program since many of the kittens have curled ears - no doubt that is the breed they went to in order to bring in the polydactyl. Joe Childers would be proud...

Not only that... They send their kittens off at 8 weeks old! They are irresponsible, unethical breeders

It is amazing that with all the bad reviews all over the internet that people STILL buy their kittens. I guess if you want a cheap but probably NOT an F2- that is where you get one. :uh oh:

They are F2s just not F2 Savannahs... that's the lie they are telling. They are F2 Jungle Cat Hybrids. If they just called them what they were, there'd be less of a problem. Still a problem with selling their kittens too young for the kittens' welfare of course...

And it was creepy the way the guy kept bragging about odd things (huge polydactyl feet, big bulky bodies, spitting, hissing) but totally blew off things like basic health of a breed, socialization, spaying/neutering, chipping, papers- you know, things responsible breeders and owners care about. So sad for these hopeful owners as I don't think they are necessarily trying to "go cheap" at the expense of their pets. I bet more often they are just excited and get knocked out by the pretty patterns and allow themselves to be led along the misinformation path...

The buyer I spoke to was certainly after that. They were selling F2s for 1/2 of the going rate. The one buyer told me that my prices were WAY out of range and bragged that there were "these" kittens for much less and awesome spotting as well then proceeded to send me a link for Domestic Wild Cats. Some people will overlook issues like health and proper socialization to save a buck sadly enough. Then they turn around and want me to help them with their cat issues AFTER they have purchased a cat from these or another breeder. I have had domestic Wild Cats buyers reach out to me for help after their questions were ignored by them. This is not a sign of a healthy breeder obviously.

Ouch! I stand corrected! As for the (rude, IMHO) buyer you spoke with, sounds like they got what they deserved
I love having you all to turn to- it's scary for us newbies out there! Fortunately I also have Patti (Jasirisana) nearby and she has been tremendous. I am determined not to be one of those horror stories!

Agreed, that it is wrong how the basic things a good breeder should be interested in is glossed over in favor of traits that are NOT Savannah ones (polydactyl paws, big bulky bodies etc).

But I agree with Kelly that the reason many buyers go with this breeder IS the cheap price. Likely they had thought they couldn't afford an F2 and then all of a sudden they find a breeder that seems to have F2s at a price they can afford! They get so excited they ignore any red flags...and then often live to regret that :-(

Yes, I can see that, and my initial reaction is "wrong consumer base." I think what is needed to attract the "right" kind of buyer is more public awareness of the BIG PERSONALITY of the Savannah. Let's be real, for PET owners who have the long term picture in mind that's truly the biggest factor.
Example: I was in love with a Snow (I know, unrecognized color) who was potentially up for adoption for weeks. He had no big wild spots, no Serval nose, no big fat tail, no idea on size, def didn't look Savannah at first blush; BUT the way they described him was totallly Savannah! (High play drive, curious, playful, craved affection, into everything, pestered other pets to play- total personality package). To be fair, he was also a bit of an underdog (which I can't seem to resist!) been rejected a lot, had picked up some, most likely, anxiety driven bad habits, special needs in many areas... If people were looking for a "wild" looking cat with no issues they were in the wrong place. Nevertheless, last tme I checked people were all over trying to adopt him.
My point is, I think pet purchasers wouldn't be so blinded by the size or spots if breeders focused more (publicity-wise) on the personality side of this amazing breed.
Just my two cents as a total lay person cat and dog lover...
