Agreed, that it is wrong how the basic things a good breeder should be interested in is glossed over in favor of traits that are NOT Savannah ones (polydactyl paws, big bulky bodies etc).
But I agree with Kelly that the reason many buyers go with this breeder IS the cheap price. Likely they had thought they couldn't afford an F2 and then all of a sudden they find a breeder that seems to have F2s at a price they can afford! They get so excited they ignore any red flags...and then often live to regret that :-(
Yes, I can see that, and my initial reaction is "wrong consumer base." I think what is needed to attract the "right" kind of buyer is more public awareness of the BIG PERSONALITY of the Savannah. Let's be real, for PET owners who have the long term picture in mind that's truly the biggest factor.
Example: I was in love with a Snow (I know, unrecognized color) who was potentially up for adoption for weeks. He had no big wild spots, no Serval nose, no big fat tail, no idea on size, def didn't look Savannah at first blush; BUT the way they described him was totallly Savannah! (High play drive, curious, playful, craved affection, into everything, pestered other pets to play- total personality package). To be fair, he was also a bit of an underdog (which I can't seem to resist!) been rejected a lot, had picked up some, most likely, anxiety driven bad habits, special needs in many areas... If people were looking for a "wild" looking cat with no issues they were in the wrong place. Nevertheless, last tme I checked people were all over trying to adopt him.
My point is, I think pet purchasers wouldn't be so blinded by the size or spots if breeders focused more (publicity-wise) on the personality side of this amazing breed.
Just my two cents as a total lay person cat and dog lover...
