If her cattery is not listed on TICA, she is not a TICA registered cattery. If the kittens aren't registered, how do you know they are savannahs?

I may be pulling up an older post but I'm trying to figure out if this is opinion or if this is general consensus among breeders.

I am wondering if your posts are just your own opinion and there are many dissenting opinions or if it is the consensus among Savannah breeders.

And how much does registering them for the certificate and getting a pedigree cost?

I don't know what you mean...it is not an opinion that if you are not listed as a TICA registered cattery, you are not a TICA registered cattery - it is a fact.

Registering a litter is $13 and a pedigree price depends on a 3 generation or 5 generation pedigree...

3 Generation = $25
5 Generation = $50

Yeah, it's pretty much general consensus between TICA registered breeders that if you don't register your cattery with TICA_ you aren't a TICA registered cattery and if you don't register your cats- well, then- you tell me how does one prove the cats are purebred anything?

You don't need to get a pedigree to breed- you do need to PURCHASE a cat with breeding rights (often when people breed and don't register- it may be because they have bought the cats as PETS and not as breeders) with registration and then you pay the fee to register your cats. Then when your kittens are born- you register your litter- it's one minimal fee per litter.

I don't know any legitimate reason not to register your kittens- I only know shady reasons. Even if you are placing your kittens as pets- unless you are GIVING them away- your owners deserve their registration papers.

If the kittens aren't registered, should the owner be in doubt as to if the cat they own is a Savannah? Or is it common that the breeders don't register their cats for whatever reason but they are indeed no question that they are Savannah since they were from a very reputable breeder. I might not be making it clearer... but Trish answered what I was looking to see if it was general consensus or just a few breeders who think that way:

I have no plans on breeding whatsoever and have both my cats already neuter/ spayed, just would be interested in pedigree just for knowledge purposes so was wondering if it was costly. Then it wouldn't be worth it just to see their pedigree for fun.

I just wasn't thinking about TICA papers as that important and want to be fully knowledgeable about them and what they convey if I want to ask for them. If it's the standard to have them etc, and if it's necessary, and mostly the importance placed on these papers.

It is uncommon for breeders NOT to register their cats...
taj was my first savannah and a pet, but I received his blue skip from the breeder, sent it in and ordered his pedigree...and it was fun to see where he came from

Yeah, my husband and I would LOVE to see which cat breeds have a big influence on them bloodline-wise.
Like how fun it is for me to look at a family tree. Not that it's important but we would love to know! I know I found I'm related to a princess up in my family tree, just as I would find it just as fun to see if they're related to a maine coon versus another cat breed etc. Doesn't matter to find it out... but at the same time it does matter for me to know! I want to know!!

I know that Lymphoma is prevalent in all cats period however, the old age type is more common and seems to be more breed specific. There is a lymphoma that is related to FELV so I don't know if your kitten was tested for anything when you got him?

I have had random complaints to me over the years about that breeder but I know their original stated intentions were to be a reliable breeder a few years ago.

Offering you a replace is fair as Lymphoma is not something you can guarantee or test for. If you worry about more issues with their cats,then it would be best to wash your hands of the situation and get a cat from someone else.

I believe you need the blue slip to get a pedigree.

Sometimes you can ask the breeder if they have scanned pedigrees from the cats in question. That can be obtained even if the kitten isn't papered.

This may be what you are saying but I believe the kitten/cat needs to actually be registered in order to obtain a pedigree. You can register the kitten and order a pedigree at the same time, but I'm pretty sure you can't order a pedigree on an unregistered kitten.
