I know that Lymphoma is prevalent in all cats period however, the old age type is more common and seems to be more breed specific. There is a lymphoma that is related to FELV so I don't know if your kitten was tested for anything when you got him?

I have had random complaints to me over the years about that breeder but I know their original stated intentions were to be a reliable breeder a few years ago.

Offering you a replace is fair as Lymphoma is not something you can guarantee or test for. If you worry about more issues with their cats, then it would be best to wash your hands of the situation and get a cat from someone else.

He tested negative for FELV and FIV the day before his death. That is exactly what I did.

This may be what you are saying but I believe the kitten/cat needs to actually be registered in order to obtain a pedigree. You can register the kitten and order a pedigree at the same time, but I'm pretty sure you can't order a pedigree on an unregistered kitten.

Yes, that is what I was saying ;)

Thank you patti. If she continues sneezing I will look into the pcr although it sounds like I may have much bigger health issues to worry about now unfortunately.

Hello Heather, I too also own a kitten from the same breeder with the same father "Goat" and I was wondering if you ever found out why your kitten was sneezing or if your kitten eventually stopped sneezing. Please let me know if you found a solution. My kitten Mila sneezes from time to time.

If your kitten is sneezing from time to time and not chronically sneezing, then he's just being a living being :) Kittens sneeze, puppies sneeze, humans sneeze. As long as it's only occasionally and not constantly and not, heaven forbid, accompanied with a lot of boogies- chances are, he's sneezing for the same reason you might sneeze. Dust in the air, allergens, etc.

Hi, our kitten is still sneezing after a round of antibiotics from the vet. She occasionally makes a kind of coughing sound almost as well. She eats well and is playful still. finally contacted the breeder who was helpful and actually recommended a stronger antibiotic so we are trying that to see if it works. I can post again if it works. If not will maybe ask the vet to do some testing. How old is your kitten?

Hello! yeah I talked to Taran as well and mine does have the same symptoms as yours and also Gina has the same symptom with her kitty...but anyways Taran is suppose to send me something which should help with Mila's sneezing and runny nose. Mila has coughed like twice since ive had her. Mila is 11 weeks old but she is growing fast and she has tons of energy, like running around like crazy and fetching paperballs and stuff like that, super smart. I bought a penny skateboard just the other day and taught Mila how to ride it in the livingroom. She is actually pushing the board from the back and hopping on it as it rolls across the livingroom floor lol. So yeah lets stay in touch I would love to figure out if this sneezing thing is some type of chronic allergy or something less serious to worry about. It only happens when shes really excited and running around really. It just scares me still.

Heather,
Let us know if it works. Mine isn't AS bad as before, but it's still there. And yes, the coughing. It's more like he's 'snorting' continuously.

It is odd that this symptom is happening to all 3 of our kittens I assume all of our kittens are fathered by Goat?

Guys, I have asked Dr. Per, who is a moderator and veterinarian, to jump in on this thread when he has a chance.

He will discuss lymphoma and the rest of the issues you are worried about, although he is in Norway, so it probably will not be until tomorrow.
Sorry about the delay, but I have been places with very restricted internet access for some time. I haven`t gone through the whole thread, but would like to add a few comments on lymphomas in general:
They are cancers involving immune (system) cells, and are well described in the Merck vet manual:
"Lymphomas are one of the most prevalent tumours in dogs and cats. The normal immune response requires a burst of rapid proliferation of lymphocytes. On occasion however, this proliferation may be uncontrolled, and lymphoid neoplasms result. Because lymphocytes are present in all organs, tumour development can occur in any organ. Lymphomas can be multicentric, mediastinal, gastrointestinal, renal, nervous, or leukemic. Less commonly, they occur in the eyes, skin, or nose. To determine the stage of the disease, CBC, serum chemistry profiles, abdominal ultrasound, abdominal radiographs, and bone marrow analyses are useful. Immuno-fluorescent staining can be performed in dogs and cats to characterize lymphomas. They may be either T cell or B cell in origin." and I`d also like to recommend the following link:
http://www.fabcats.org/owners/cancer/lymphoma.html
Lymphomas may be viral or unknown in origin or cause, but are often associated with use of immunosuppressive drugs. "Often" here means that when you have a cat with lymphoma, it may have been given an immunosuppressive drug before the lymphoma was seen, NOT the other way round! Most animals given immunosuppressive drugs do NOT develop lymphomas. But! They are caused by wildly replicating immune system cells, and some of them are difficult/impossible to treat, just like other cancers: you are better off without one, but you will often see successful treatment. Aggressive tumours in young animals are never a good thing, they are often discovered too late or they progress too quickly to respond to treatment. And as someone mentioned, congenital is not synonymous with inherited.
On a last note, a lot is unknown about cancers in general, and many people try to profit from this fact. Please, breathe through your nose when reading stuff on the internet proclaiming either "The TRUTH" or "The CURE" for cancers. Cross-check, and if you use www.scholar.google.com you will find peer reviewed stuff that is less profit- and more fact-oriented.
