Elsa Under the Weather... Opinions Please!

I'm relieved to hear that Elsa is doing better. The high ALT is concerning, especially coupled with a low platelet count which can occur when there is a liver problem. Even though she's acting normally I would definitely repeat her bloodwork in a week or so to make sure these things are resolving.

YOU are sick John??? THAT could be what is wrong with Elsa. They DO manifest their Human's sickness symptoms.

She got sick before I did... and her Body temp went down to 94.1. Tomorrow I have an appoint with Elsa at a new vet. I found one real close that deals with Exotics, so maybe they will be a good vet for her... We will see.

Tomorrow at the new vet I want to do the Blood Work again and see what comes up... But Elsa seems to be about 90% back to normal... The only thing she is not back to is chasing her mice.. She is carrying them around, but not chasing them.

Minor update on Elsa... This morning Elsa brought me her mouse and wanted to play fetch... That is her favorite game. Yesterday she was carrying her mouse around, but did not want to play fetch.. Today game on! I consider this a very positive move in the right direction. This morning we are going to the vet, I want to do blood work again, but that will depend on the Vet's and Elsa's feelings (if she will cooperate)...

Just got back from the Vet and did a full blood work up.. Will have the results late this afternoon. This vet really seems to know what he is talking about and says Elsa looks good.

And here is a picture of Elsa like you have never seen her before....

The inside view. The only notable notation that could be consider out of the ordinary per the Radiologist reading it was that the artery going to the liver was smaller than normal, but that could be accounted for due to her level of dehydration... My big question, how or what caused her dehydration. She always has water out and is always sharing my water.... LOL, the only thing she won't share with me is my orange juice... Just for the record Witchy... There is no alcohol involved!

Just got the blood work back and it is not great news, but it is good news. Parameters are closer to being within tolerances, but still not within the realm of perfection. The doctor does not seem to worried as the changes we are seeing seem to be on the right trend of correcting themselves, just not quite there yet... He did have to sedate her (with gas) and she had a pretty violent waking up and may have bruised a muscle in the process, but she is not limping and is back to Fetching Mice. I would think that if were a break or something worse she would at least have a limp, but she only complains when I touch one particular area.

In questioning of the taking of the blood and bleeding, there is no evidence of bleeding and the doctor had trouble getting a vain and had to go to the neck... It appears that we are good, at least for the time being on that one. If she is still complaining with I touch her him by Sunday then I am taking her back to the vet, but I think that it will work out on its own...

That much of a reduction in ALT is fantastic in that short of a time. AST is normal. Again, that to me would indicate that she may have gotten into a toxin - something that crashed her but she bounced back due to the supportive care being given so rapidly. They probably had issues getting to the vein because she is dehydrated. My guess would be that her body may have tried to flush out the bad stuff.

It sounds positive, and good news that the new vet seems a good option.

What did they sedate her with that she had a difficult waking up to?
