Enlarged heart

I'm not sure where you are located, but sometimes you can find an HCM clinic that will do a basic echocardiogram for you. I've missed or forgotten - where is the shadow?
Closet city sacramento, are the clinics you mention if there is one near me, less in price?

Thank you so much.
I did have a 28 minute conversation with kitty's actual doctor, dr. w last night. Since she was not in house the day I took kitty in, I sent her an email and asked if she could please go over all notes documented on all this and give me a call......that I was overwhelmed and would appreciate her view since she knows kitty best. she said if kitty had eaten anything before coming in ( which I informed the other doc's that she had, about a tablespoon of can food) that likely that was the dark shadow. And after her viewing the X-ray said yes the heart is slightly enlarged but not to the extent of having to perform test IMMEDIATELY. YES, a cardio gram is absolutely necessary to see what is going on. But it doesn't need to be today. I shared with her kitty is eating well, very playful and BM's aren't as frequent but they are there. They are on the dry side like clay. Dr. w said keep a close eye and will schedule kitty's appt for cardio test. WHEW........ MY HEART RATE can now return to normal.
This got me to thunking......with the mention of enlarged hearts being linked to bengals and not common with Savannah's and the breeder purposly not providing any documents when asked REPEATLY ( all I have a copy of a copy sheet of printer paper with the information of Kitty typed up. No original document )about kitty's parents and bloodline......could it be possible that I was sold a Bengal ?
Probably not a Bengal, but I believe there could be Bengal in the bloodlines of his cats. Not uncommon farther back in SV lines, but I think his might be closer. Most likely one of the reasons he doesn't give official bloodline information.

I just went back thru your threads looking for pictures. Her birthday picture with her bed of grass looks like a SV to me. But, as DumaLove stated, Bengals were used in early breeding and some breeders may still.

I agree that it is the reason.

No option to rotate, I know the issue is on my side. Sorry

I'm so sorry to hear of Kitty's heart :(

Jimmy has a hole in his heart. I'm not sure how bad it is as we haven't done extensive testing on him, but it doesn't slow him down at all. I have him on supportive herbs as well. The heart is so tough :( Sending you and Kitty lots of love and light

Thank you so much, will know more after the cardio. Blessings to you and your precious fur baby.

No, it doesn't say that you haven't gotten a Savannah. Our breed HAS seen cats with HCM,but most of them were known to have recent Bengal heritage and in some cases those bengals were known to be of a line that carried for the disease.

Your girl does look to have strong Bengal influences and I do believe the breeder (if I am remembering rightly) does use quite some Bengal. To me, it seems some breeders don't see the difference between the "wild" look of the Bengal and the Savannah so think it is a good idea to use BG in our breed. As kittens it can certainly result in flashier coats for the kittens...

Now not all SVs with heart issues have a lot of Bengal heritage and not all Bengals carry for this disease. Just that good breeders in breeds with a certain level of incidence of HCM will then routinely test their breeding stock: Bengal, Maine Coon, Sphynx, Ragdoll...and I sincerely hope Savannah is never added to that list!

I am glad Kitty is eating and pooping now...that reduces the worry on that front.

As to clinics near Sacramento... not sure which direction out from that city you are... but there is a planned HCM clinic in Santa Rosa in April. Let me know if you want the information on that. I have an email somewhere about it. It's not a cardiologist I am familiar with personally, but I know some Maine Coon and Bengal breeders that say she is fantastic.

MM3, I live in Fair Oaks, which is about 25 minutes out of Sac. My F2 was diagnosed with HCM a couple of months ago, and his cardiologist is Dr. Brian MacKie, if you are interested. His sonogram was not cheap, however, but I am very happy with the follow up care from his vet.
