So.. I let the kittens out to play a lot today. When I'm sleeping or gone they're in their cat kennel the whole time, when I'm here/up they're out with me or in the cat room playing with their toys. Today is the first time they both ventured down stairs, before they seemed afraid of stairs so I'm assuming Kim may not have them in her home or they just didn't know what was down the stairs. Thankfully I have a split foyer house and I was able to close the door going to the down stairs living room before they got that far. I haven't introduced them to the ferrets yet and I also don't want Sabriel all stressed out.
So today, Trance was a bit naughty but it was my fault in the end. She had gone pee and poo on their bedding in the kennel. She could have gone anywhere in my upstairs area and instead she went where she had gone that first night I got the new litter box... So I was kind of happy she didn't go on any of my stuff but yeah..
At first I was a bit mad, because I knew she knew how to use the litter box and it was literally right next to her so it's not like she couldn't get to it in time. She also did it right in front of me, even with me trying to get her to stop.
Turns out, I can't scoop their litter box like I do Sabriels. With Sabriel's litter box I scoop the middle and top of it, she never goes on the bottom so all of her litter comes out in clumps. I'm not sure if it's because they had the pine litter before or what but I found out both kittens will scoop to the bottom of the litter and go on the floor of the box and then just paw litter over it. So I investigated why Trance refused to use her litter box even though I had been scooping it... The majority of the bottom was covered in a damp litter which I'm assuming their paws were getting into when they would go in their and also when they would dig for the bottom to go... What I don't understand is they don't do it with their poo, only their urine... That's why i didn't notice it before I'm assuming, ... there was enough little balls of urine I was assuming it was just getting broke apart when they both went to the box...
Anyway so now I know Nakaia is using the box... she may be using it too much. Not sure if she just likes scooping in there or if she may have a uti. She kept going in and out of there and tossing litter around. She still is. I know from when they had a little litter box that she really, really likes to move it around and get it all just right over her stuff so maybe that's what she's doing? I don't know..
Trance has gone in the box one time since I cleaned it out entirely and put in the new formula - the World's Best Multi-Cat formula. So hopefully she continues to do so..
When I got their bedding out of the washer I once again sprayed it front and back with the natures miracle for cats and then put it in the dryer. When I got it out of the dryer I put it in with them. I've seen them both laying down on it and I've seen them both sitting normally on it -- so hopefully they can't smell Trance's accident.
I'll be more thorough about cleaning their litter box in the future that's for sure.
