I am so very sorry for your loss. It is never easy letting go, especially with one so very young. Cyber hugs.

Ishani, hugs to you and your family. Words seem insufficient when you suffer such a heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts are with you and with Freya's spirit.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Ishani :-(

I know it is hard to fathom how this was missed but it is relatively common to miss heart murmurs, especially in a busy noisy vet clinic. My F2 was missed for 18 months until he was in congestive heart failure... we did have a miracle with him and managed his condition for over 10 years after that, but he was asymptomatic when we took him in (routine health visit). Most cats hide their symptoms and when we finally get some inkling of it, it is too late :-(

Hello all, sorry for the silence, I've been coming to terms with it all. I can talk openly about it now. First of all, thank you all for your kind words, the support has been amazing. The vet is 90% sure it was a heart murmur, and that's good enough for me. I could have spent the extra money on finding out exactly but the breeder is already fixing the mother and it won't haunt me not to know all the details. I'd rather her body be laid to rest without being disturbed as much as possible. She was cremated and we spread her ashes in the forest where we took her for walks. We got a little clay imprint of her paw, which I will be getting as a small tattoo on my ankle as a tribute to her. When we're ready the breeder will give us a kitten but that is in the future. She's been amazing through everything and even helped with the vet bills. It was really heartbreaking, but we had some cold comfort in the fact that she was born with it and it wasn't our fault. We gave her the best life we could, even if it was for a short time.

I love the idea of the tattoo, that way she will always be with you. I am glad to hear that the breeder has been so supportive as well.

So glad you checked in Ishani. You've been on my mind. The tattoo is a lovely tribute to your Freya. She'll always be in your heart and when the time is right, there will room in there for another SV. Hugs to you.
