Got spayed (what a nightmare)

I'm glad to hear that Malia is finally on the mend! Quite the ordeal and crating is certainly tough. Wirth our kitten after his injury, we really didn't have a choice but to leave him at the vet. He was just too much of a terror, even on 3 legs and he couldn't help himself despite the pain he was in. Lower profile litter boxes didn't work in his crate as he would clear all the litter outAnd finally had to opt for a taller one with extra litter to keep it anchored. Mounted bowls didn't work for us either and we finally opted for large ceramic ones that were heavy enough it took great effort to move them.

Anyway, Glad Malia has such a caring Mom and hope she gets uncrated soon.

Here are some ideas from my experience with Layla

She was spayed through Laproscopic procedure, worth every penny
She came home the same day with a cone which she took off 7 times so we put on her harness that stopped her from licking her tummy
We gave her liquid pain killers which I lost a few fingers in the process, need metal armour next time lol
The walking harness is a must to have
The Large Dog Crate worked ok, I would still suggest the harness and perhaps a long wide sock to be cut on each ends and pulled over their tummy.

The price difference between the old school spaying and Laproscopic was about 550.00

I hope your kitty is getting better.

You wont regret it.

Yes, and the procedure will not be that expensive. In Nj, they have a low cost S/N program, so I received a certificate in the mail, which my vet will apply towards the spay...so i think the procedure will cost me about $350...they will keep Cinny overnight for free...

Update on Malia. Today we let her out.

We are temporarily living in a small apartment while our new house gets a small remodel (kitchen and family room). Well, as you learn through the process they take way longer then you think. So we cleaned out the small room of all our boxed stuff and made a very safe and comfy room for her. Of course she still finds things to amuse herself with. Sigh, we just couldn't keep her caged anymore. Now we are going to take turns sleeping with her at night. What we do for our fur babies!

I want to thank everyone for the valuable information shared (I learned so much) and I want to invite others to share too. These insights and experiences are very important in helping us figure out was is best for our Savannahs.

This is a great thread, full of useful information. I am glad to hear that Malia is doing well. It sounds like its been pretty stressful. Is she an F2?

I have an F3 who will be undergoing the same procedure in the next few months, so learnings from your event are really going to help me brought. Thanks so much.

Sleeping on the floor with our convalescing kittens poses great challenges, a fair amount of discomfort and at the end great rewards. They'll forget about you being the prison guard that kept them crated, had them held up in a small room but always remember that you were there for them at 3am when they needed a hug. 8 weeks with Chongo in this fashion and once a kitten that was a non stop fur ball of fury at least stops for a few minutes to let us know that we are something besides feeding machines and giant squeeze toys.

I too agree that these threads contain a great deal of information for the future. I'm sure every cat is a little different when crated just as they are when they aren't. Starting from ground zero is really tough and making interim changes through the first 48 hours is both stressful and challenging. While I believe the way each cat or kitten copes with things, I'm hopeful that people can find these threads when their confronted with these issues. Most of all as long as it may seem, it will be over in a heartbeat and with love and care a healthy, happy cat or kitten will emerge with a greater attachment to their caretakers.

Update on Malia; she is doing great and healing nicely. She is on day three of no pain meds and of course she has diarrhea but the vet checked and she is fine. We are now playing on the floor with her which is making her so happy. I am getting a lot of love and cuddles too. :in love: She hears Rose and she dosent seem to mind at the moment. We are just so thankful all is well with our babies

Hope the diarrhea clears soon, why does the vet think that has happened? Is it that she needs probiotics to settle her gastrointestinal system after antibiotics then, as you said the vet said she is fine?
