Are you feeding a commercially prepared raw or are you grinding it yourself? If you're doing it yourself, are you adding organ meats or a good vitamin/mineral supplement to make up for the lack of organ meat?

I'm currently grinding his raw feed myself. I add the recommended (according to the bag) amount of Wild-Trax with every meal.

Ok. If you can add some organ meat into the mixture that would be good too. The general guideline is
  • 80% raw boneless meat. This includes primarily muscle meat but can also include things like fat and skin, along with any kind of connective tissue such as tendons, sinew, cartilage etc.
  • 10% bones.
  • 5-10% squishy organ meats, with half that amount being liver.

I always caution people who feed only 1 type of protein, that there is a risk of the cat becoming tired of it and refusing to eat it or developing an allergy to it. That's why it's good to introduce a variety of meats & organs such as rabbit, beef, bison, pheasant, quail, game hen, turkey, heart, gizzard, kidney.

Thanks for the run-down on the raw feed. I've planned on adding organ meats, but I've only run across chicken liver thus far (then again, I suppose it's still an improvement on the diet). I was also planning on introducing the other meats (beef, turkey and the like) after he's thoroughly settled in to his new home. I didn't want him dealing with a change in diet on top of a change in location (about 800 miles worth).

Welcome, Joe and Tucker....he's a cute one and does have a devilish air about him :) I like that.

If Tucker seems to still be hungry after eating, you might try some raw beef chunks; either pre-cut as stew meat or get a small roast (with as little fat as possible, or cut it away). I find raw beef to be the best to help satisfy that hunger craving some growing SV boys seem to have around age 4 months or so...try a few small pieces at first to see if he handles it well without digestive upset, and progress to larger chunks....about 2-3" in diameter.

Welcome Joe and tucker, he's a good looking boy

My observation with our 11 month F2 male Loki, is that once he reached about 10 months old he slowed down on the quantity that he eats as compared to when he was between 6 and 10 months. Loki is down to about 9 or 10 ounces of home ground raw daily with either a raw chicken leg or a quail for an afetnoon snack. He turned 11 months yesterday and weighed in at 20lbs 2-1/2 oz. He's quite a tall boy, just over 17" on the rear end and about 16 1/2 on the front. Before 10 months he averaged about a 12 ounces of raw a day plus his chicken or quail. The little bugger eats better than I do ...lol

Welcome Joe and Tucker! Looks like you are getting spot on advice from everyone, so I have little to add other than to welcome you..as mentioned, you do need to add some organ meat to the raw mixture and hare-today has chicken hearts and liver, so you should be good to go...

Thank you, Christina. You may not remember me, but we spoke while I was still searching for a kitten.

I do have one question, if you don't mind: what vet do you use? Jackson is a pretty decent drive from where I am, but it would be nice to go to someone with a little more experience dealing with spotted hellspawn.
