Has anyone heard of this breeder? Reputation?

I've seen their website, but know nothing of them.

Some of their breeder cats look quite nice, as do the kittens; a few look a bit too Bengal for my taste, but only my opinion....what about this breeder made you ask for opinions here ?

If this breeder has a kitten that catches your eye, makes your heart skip a beat when you see his/her pics, and you feel is just the right one for you....then go for it, as long as the kitten is healthy, well-socialized, comes with a contract with health guarantee, and you feel comfortable with the breeder. A good breeder should be willing to answer any question you ask AND be willing to be accessible to you for as long as possible. References from past kitten customers is a big plus, too.

Would be curious to know in which way the kittens on the website look to Bengal. Is it the markings? Ear shape? Just curious.......

You need to ask many questions of this breeder (purrfect paws), since none of us are familiar with him/her...I have no direct experience with Sunset Exotics but know people who have...I would NOT go back to a breeder who did not help me when my cat was diagnosed with HCM...she she be replacing Servo - period...Purrfect Paws has no website? NO info...how can you be a savannah breeder and not know about HCM? IDK - if the price is too good to be true, it often is just that - too good to be true...

The only "experience" I have had with Sunset Exotics is that she does NOT respond to Rescue when we've had cats from her cattery surrendered to us. Nor about PK Deficiency testing that I had wanted to follow up on a line we'd determined carried for that gene.

purrfectpawz does have a website. purrfectpawzsavannahs.com I think she is a newer breeder but it was confirmed she has purchased breeder cats from fusionkatz.

Morbius, have you had a look at our member breeders? There are some outstanding choices with great histories of producing very fine cats. This is not to say that newer breeders can't be good, but my personal preference is for those with significant experience under their belts.

Would you replace a cat for someone even if that cat lived to be 6 years? I know the typical contract is for a 1 year health guarantee against genetic conditions.

My contract actually allows 5 years for genetic conditions. One year for refund but 5 years for replacement. I think in this particular case given the NUMBER of health conditions your cat had, I would definitely feel that I should replace the cat.

The contract should be regarded as a minimum standard, with the ability of the breeder to be more generous in a given situation. It's hard to cover ALL situations in the one contract.

Many years ago (in 2001), I purchased my first Savannah, an F2 male. At 18 months of age he was diagnosed in congestive heart failure and the cardiologist did not think he would make 2 years of age. Now his contract only guaranteed the standard one year. BUT his breeder still "replaced" him...well I didn't send him back (I couldn't do that and she didn't really wish to take on his expensive veterinary care!) but she offered a replacement kitten. I ended up deciding I wanted to breed and so she took his purchase price off the price of a breeding female (unrelated). I appreciated her willingness to do the right thing, even if this was not covered in the contract. And that F2 lived to 12 and a half years old before lymphoma got him, but given the cost of his vet bills to maintain his condition I don't think his breeder has ever thought she did the wrong thing.

Just to note. My last DSH ( Merlin ), died of congestive heart failure. Nice to know your boy lived a reasonably long life. And I KNOW the vet bills were worth it.

Well, I am looking for an F2 or F3 with a max budget of 2K. The breeders on this site are AWESOME; I've checked every one out and perhaps spoke with a couple of them. Sadly, their prices are all over my budget limit. I know I know… I get what I pay for. I guess I'll HAVE to take some risk. I'm just trying to mitigate that risk by doing my due diligence here. And I thank you all who have discussed this topic and have helped to educate me.

Yes, that is a generous contract. It seems the breeders on this site have a great degree of honor.
