Has anyone heard of this breeder? Reputation?

Morbius, are you looking at Purrfect Paws kitten tomorrow? I asked a few questions & got a question back...seems someone is looking tomorrow but they will let me know if he's sold & answer any questions I have if he's not...my son & I spoke with a few different breeders before deciding on Kelly, everyone of them took time to reassure us they had the best, keeping in mind not everyone breeds for a certain trait. Maybe Purrfect Paws were too busy to answer questions about a kitten they consider already sold? Mojo with his highlighted ears is an absolute joy & Eddie has that "wild" look I wanted along with the ability to make everything in the house back up from his food bowl/mom/toy, etc... The wait can seem unbearable but if you have to save to get exactly what you want it might be better than an "almost". Good luck!

Yes, that is a generous contract. It seems the breeders on this site have a great degree of honor.

Yes, those breeders that participate here are generally those that feel a great responsibility to our breed and want to do it right.

Really, breeders that spend time on any forum (be it here, FB or yahoogroups) trying to educate and advise newcomers...those are generally the better breeders. The more involved they are in our Savannah community, the better I would feel about them. Someone that doesn't participate is likely just more into selling kittens and may not feel the same responsibility to those kittens after the sale. And may not feel so much responsibility to ensure that the kittens they sell ARE healthy and well-socialized.

You are correct, $2,000 is very low to find an F2 or even most F3s...I might wonder if the kitten you get might look less like a Savannah than a well-bred F4 in this case. When "you get what you pay for" you might end up getting the F-number that appeals to you but without the Serval looks you might expect for that generation.

I agree with everything said here...$2000 is an extremely low budget for any f2...I don't know any reputable breeder that sells an F2 or F3 kitten for that price. Perhaps you should wait as eddies has suggested...you may be happier in the long run, if you do

I'm going to be blunt-- the 'you get what you pay for' line is really a craptastic way to look for a kitten.

Why is that? Well, if your budget is $2000 and say, you decide to skimp on having a contract or whatever to have the kitten of your dreams-- what happens when said kitten ends up with a defect that runs you in the thousands? Well, you could have actually went with a kitten that cost more, but had less issues. Or a kitten with full support from their breeder. Or a kitten that is closer to the standard if that's what you are looking for.

Hey, I get it. We all have our budgets and are willing to only go so high, but I'm going to be honest-- I think you are more likely to kick yourself in the butt in the end.

I don't know the current prices for nonstandard SVs, they can cost a bit less. Would a marble or nonstandard color be of interest to you -- it's an option to explore.

I have to agree, I would be concerned about an F2 kitten that was being sold for $2000 from a breeder I wasn't familiar with, so if you find that kind of a deal please ask lots of questions about both the kitten, the parents, older siblings, and the breeders.

Oh yeah. Nonstandard color is okay. I want the high intelligence and some serval traits over perfect color/ spotting.

Medical problems are an unknown variable. Even an expensive, well bred cat can have medical bills. All a breeder can do is give another cat as part of a guarantee. They can't take away medical problems that a cat may acquire. Yes, better breeding can reduce the probability of medical problems; but it can't erase them completely. I can justify spending a few thousand on medical bills for a cat that is a bonded family member and is loved as one. Spending 5-6 k on a cat up front is a KNOWN variable. And I'll be blunt; I don't think it's worth spending 5K on ANY animal up front. It's hard enough to justify 2K when there are tons of free needy kittens in shelters. But I'm willing to spend 2k for a cat that's leagues more intelligent and interactive than your average DSH. That is what I crave. The stronger bonding and ability to communicate that the higher filial generation savannahs offer. I DO believe higher F generation has a correlation with the higher intelligence and bonding strength of these animals.

Well yeah I've learned my lesson. I am trying my best on due diligence this time around. And Thanks to all of you, I have learned a lot since becoming a member here.
