Hello, new here.

I think my allure to cats started long ago. My grandfather used to have a pet cougar (before i was around) when he worked for the forest service in Montana. I grew up seeing pictures of it. Later on after we had moved back from Alaska to Montana, my parents and uncle were friends with another man who had one for a pet. I used to drop kick soccer balls for it, the foam ones. Nothing like playing fetch with a cougar when you are 12. Now adays people would gasp. I loved it. Great animal. Just amazing to watch. The only thing close to that amazing is watching a bird dog hunt in thick cover. Just as amazing. I will look into all the other cats. see what i can do talking with DEP. Do you have a fact sheet I can go over before hand. Is there a specific contact to get a hold of? Do you need a list of the emails of the current representatives and state senators?

we can put a fact sheet together for you - that is a great way to go about this...

If you email me at admin@savannahcatchat dot com, i will send you the contact info...

Yes, a list of all the representatives and senators would be awesome and if you don't mind helping out when the time comes, that would be wonderful!

Aaron, since you want a mouser, are you planning on letting your cat roam outdoors? There are way too many dangerous things outside that can hurt or kill a cat. Just asking.

I don't even let my dog roam outside with out me. While i would like a mouser, primarily I was drawn to the savannah cat because of its intelligence. I had planned on having a partner in crime being out side with me when i am outside, after some intensive clicker work. I am not sure if that is realistic or feasible, as much will depend on the cat and my ability to train them i think. That point is kind of moot now that i have found out savannahs are not allowed instate. So I am looking more for an indoor cat, something energetic, elegant, and if it sees a pest indoors ( not much of a problem this year as i baited heavily outside all winter) capable of catching the damn thing. I have an aversion to baiting in the house.

Welcome Aaron. I loved your intro post! I hope you will find a proper partner in crime :) Maybe CT will change the law by that time. I wish you luck.

Thanks for the great intro post and welcome. Simply a great job of of letting us know who you are and what brought you here.

Given what you described and what you are looking for in a cat, I would definitely include in your research an Abby. As much as all of us revel in the antics of our SVs, we don't have anything on the Abyssinian owner. They are incredibly playful, enjoy a great deal of attention and are avid hunters. They pretty much fit what you're looking for and will make you laugh for a number of years while striking fear into your rodent issues.
