Hello Savvy Lovers; from NorCal :)

Sorte
It was fresh when I brought it in. Maybe 10 minutes old. It had to be sent out to a lab to do the actual test and the driver just happened to be there about 20 minutes after I had brought the sample in, so it went out soon after. I asked the tech multiple times if this was good for TriTrich and she said yes. It is also the test the vet recommended as this is what she does for her 2 Savannahs.

I have been doing my best to keep him off of everything (counters, tables, hutch...etc) and he is pretty unhappy about that too. He gives me little "screw you" glares and meows every time I have to spray him with the squirt bottle, then goes and finds his monkey toy to take out his aggression. LOL! That part is kinda funny...

LOL I can relate to the evil glares. Keljin had to sleep in the bathroom on his own bed with a bunch of towels that were constantly washed because of how drippy he was :( He spent the first 4 months home with me, not being able to sleep by my side due to his poo issues. He is a total snuggler now though! Up until then it was torture, I felt so evil not allowing him to roam around like a normal cat. I hope soon Sorte can be free to roam where he wants to again.

Oh man, I can't even imagine having to quarantine him in a room again. I would feel evil to him too. He has times when he is literally running and jumping on the walls as it is when he gets bursts of energy!

(Side note- I was playing with him the other day with his wand and plastic bag and he has started to use the walls as an extra launch while chasing his toy. He launched off the wall at full sprint about four feet up and almost touched the celing from that point! It was pretty awesome to see!) LOL!

I am willing to clean things up for now and keep an eye on him. He only really leaks for about 30 minutes after he goes poop so at least I know when it's going to happen for the most part. He has been deciding to sleep with us the last week or so though and we found a bit of semi-soft stool on the bed yesterday and this morning, not a liquid leak though so it was easy to clean.

Yeah quarantine time was no fun at all. Also Keljin was a baby when he was sick and that made it rough when he was so tiny, not as predictable as Sorte's leaks. He was dripping about every 10min all day long, regardless of if he just went potty or not. I had to follow him around with TP in hand during play time ready to wipe every 5-10min lol. At least yours is more predictable/manageable! I hope he can be 100% soon.

Boy, yeah that doesn't sound fun at all. :( I'm glad it's semi manageable too. All I can say, is I'm glad he's drinking water still. I can see a noticeable loss in size from yesterday, he looks skinnier again, which seems to fluctuate quite often. He has never been filled out enough to the point I couldn't feel his spine. At one point I couldn't feel his ribs very easily and that was at his fullest and that lasted about 2 days...maybe. Now hes back to ribs and spine noticeable again.
Thank you Bre, I hope so too. :)

Paul, that is great that he is still drinking water. It is amazing how much nutrition cats can lose through not having healthy stools :( Once the root of this problem is taken care of, I am sure he will have a nice change in growth.

I'm sorry to hear that Sorte is not doing well. I agree that a diarrhea panel is the way to go right now. It is also possible that Sorte has IBD rather than an infection which would most likely require life long medications. Both Albon and metronidazole are soothing to the gut, so with or without an infection it can help his symptoms.

As for the breeder knowing about his problems, that may not necessarily be true. Sometimes a subclinical infection can brew and then when the cat is stressed (e.g. being shipped to a new home) it will flare up and he will have symptoms for the first time. I have a Savannah with IBD who never showed any symptoms until he was over 2 years old. Of course, that does not excuse her for not responding to your emails...
