Brandy...they are not correct when they say that savannahs and domestics do not get along - sorry! I have a very laid back DSH boy who is 10 years old and got Zuri as a kitten when he was 8 years old...she was and is a hellion, but they got along famously ;) And then I had a litter of seven kittens, kept two and Cisco gets along with all of them...all of my kitten buyers have either other cats or dogs and there is no problem with any of my kittens and their other pets...

Your cat acts perfectly normal to me. She is just trying her hardest to get you to pay attention to her. I know she would dearly love to be out in the home. No matter how nice her area is...in my HO she simply needs more time with her humans. Solitude is not good for a human...much less a social animal like a cat.

Missing Neka, Loving Sabriel, Nakaia, & Trance
Btw, here's a video of how Neka was with me. It's because of the relationship I had with her that made me think maybe I've socialized Sabriel wrong or something. I realize each cat is an individual and has it's own personality but oh I wish that Sabriel loved me or trusted me as much as Neka did... I do think that Sabriel care's for me btw, I just wish she showed it in the same way that Neka did... and I know that's not going to happen, or at least not now, but yeah..

Missing Neka, Loving Sabriel, Nakaia, & Trance
Of course after I make a comment like I did about the one above, Sabriel has got to prove me wrong. Went downstairs and played with her some and then with her still in the room was watching Twilight, and it was the part in the ballet room where the music was ominous and the voices were a bit louder. Really got her attention, well I went from sitting on the couch to laying on the couch with a blanket on. First time she has ever come and pounced in my lap. Of course she was still kind of wild because she was playing with her toy mouse but still better than nothing. When she got a bit to rambunctious to the point I wondered if she would bite me instead of the mouse I'd throw the mouse for her and she'd run get it and then come back and pounce between my legs to lay on the couch but on the soft blanket. At times she would try to bite my foot (i was wearing socks so really she was biting the sock) and I would say "no" and she would mostly stop and a few times she looked like she was biting the blanket or my leg so I'd say "no" or I'd divert her with the toy. Now to get her to do it calmly if that's even possible. If I can ever get her to settle down or maybe if I can get her to do that when she's completely worn out, I may have a sleeping buddy. Man I should try to get that cat wheel sooner so that during the day maybe she could wear herself down a little on that and then at night I could play fetch or pole games with her and then during the night she may sleep with me... I like that idea...

There are some things I am picking up on. It is easy to see that you loved Neka. You have to realize that each cat is an individual. Sabriel is not Neka..she is not going to act exactly the same. On the other hand I am not getting the feeling that Sabriel is getting the same attention that Neka might have gotten when she arrived. Sometimes we are afraid that something is going to go wrong...just as it did in the past. We tend to sometimes be overly protective due to getting attached and then losing yet another precious soul. My HO is that if you give Sabriel all the love and attention you can give...she is going to do the same in return. She needs for her mama to relax..and accept her for what she is. As long as you think you are doing all you can to make this work....chance are ...that is correct. On the other hand if you have doubts yourself...just try to figure out how to give her a little more freedom with the family. You can tell by the video...she just wants love and attention from her human mama. Don't look for all the things you think she is doing wrong...look for little things this precious baby is doing right. I do hope things turn around and everyone will be happy. Bless Sabriels sweet little soul. She has no idea she is doing anything wrong.

She's not doing anything wrong, I know that they are individual's. I'm not trying to get her to be Neka, I mean yes I wish she trusted me like Neka did but she does not have to act the same way for me to love her, I already love her.
As for the attention Sabriel is getting, I put in one of the posts that when I first got Sabriel in the middle of October, from then to December something I had skin irritation. With the new house, new cat, and just a lot of new things around I was trying to figure out if I was allergic to something. As it first occurred about a week after I got Sabriel my family was convinced it was her, and I was half wondering if it was her as well. So I mostly resorted to pole games with her and restricted myself from a lot of hands on time with her. I would pet her when she let me, but she wasn't big on my holding her then and even now she tolerates it but I don't think she likes to be held. Whereas when I first got Neka she loved to be held and she would allow me to place her on my lap sometimes and just pet her and she would purr and purr. So it was just easier to get Neka to trust me.
With Sabriel since January I've been trying to get more hands on but also not push her. A lot of times she's been really good.

She still has the play biting and sometimes real biting (but not making me bleed) issue that I'm trying to curb and preferably get rid of entirely. Neka NEVER bit, so I never had to train her not to. My old cat Spunky a Siamese I had for 17 years, never really bit either. So with Sabriel I've tried the saying "no" and saying "ouch" (while pretending like I'm really in pain, even though I'm not) and diverting her attention with toys. I think some of the issue is that at this point I don't trust her not to bite me, and she's picking up on that. So it's a work in progress.

I do sense that to some degree you are projecting your relationship with Neka onto Sabriel, and that is normal given your circumstances. However, you are also recognizing that Sabriel has her own unique personality and are accepting her for who she is - that is the best gift you can give her. I truly believe that Sabriel loves and trusts you just as much as Neka did, only she shows it in her own unique way. Trust in your relationship with her, and know that you are giving her a wonderful home.

FIP can be tested for at any time as it is not normally vaccinated against (nor would I ever recommend vaccinating against it). Typical vaccines are panleukopenia, calici, and rhinotracheitis (herpes) viruses, plus rabies in some states.

I tend to feel the same as Shelby, I think that you need to relax and let your relationship with Sabriel develop without stress and anxiety and expectations...if you can do that you probably will end up with an equally valuable relationship with Sabriel. Just I think that you have treated Sabriel differently because of what happened with Neka. You've described how it has been different, so I think you need to accept that not only is Sabriel a different kitty but there's been a bumpy road there that you are feeling the effects of now and maybe for some time too.

Savannah Super Cat
Brandy, your cat sounds a lot like my son's SV. Really incorrigible, high energy, and wants his way. Swats playfully at people passing by, but the people don't think it's playful. Talks a lot. Trashes everything off everything.
But the cat got better with time and a DSH buddy. Still very opinionated but a real pal to my son and daughter in law. I have faith you both will have become best of pals as your cat matures.

domestic cats from what I read do not like savannahs (they're scared of them more often than not) - and I am not a dog person..

There is so much misinformation out there...My Ragdoll loves my Savannah very much, they play together, sleep together, eat together....redecorate the house together lol

Ironically people (including breeders) on the Ragdoll forum think that my Savannah is going to eat my Ragdoll lol there are dumb ideas everywhere.

I have pics of the two of them "eating" each other (grooming) somewhere on this forum.
