Okay so I wasn't sure where I was going to post this, but figured this thread was a good place to put it. I am absolutely, completely, irrevocably thrilled at this moment. Just a little bit ago Sabriel let me hold her like a baby, for a fairly long period of time. She was absolutely content and purring. She also let me pet her stomach without any protest. I was shocked and pleased as hell!
From a cat that doesn't like to be held for long period of time, and certainly not like a baby (ever), this has been a huge deal for me and likely for her as well. To me it speaks highly of trust, and love. I'm hoping this will be a nightly thing now on but I'll take it slowly and watch her moods (least she learn to dislike it). She even let me switch her from one arm to another, she was very compliant which is also very unlike her.
I started out with holding her like that in her room, then walked out to sit in a chair by my ferret habitat. I think part of it was she was so enraptured looking at them that she didn't mind my petting her stomach. Whatever the reason is, I hope it lasts! From my two previous cats loving to be held like babies, hopefully Sabriel will love it as well.
I would have held her longer but near the end she started nipping at my fingers a little, she'd nip, I'd say "no", and then she would switch to licking (more like grooming me lol), then she'd nip a bit again, I'd say "no" again and she'd switch to licking. After several times I just went to feed her, and ended things on a positive note. Right now I'm just blissful!
