How do You comfort your kitty?

Does a spraying rabbit smell like skunk in your house? Because that is how pungent an intact male cat's urine can be. Even if they use the litterbox mostly your house will smell like them....

I have been lucky not to have had that problem... Sylvester only missed the litter box once in 15 years and that was because he was sick.... A little off topic, but did you ever think of Toilet Training... If he has more legal choices of places to go meaning ALL of the bathrooms, he may not be as tempted to do this. Right now, I am having good success with the Litter Kwitter system.

Oh yes, when I first started breeding my husband and I visited a local Savannah breeder's home (she also had Bengals). She opened the door and JN leaned towards me to whisper "please tell me our house is not going to smell like that!"...and that was without setting foot in there! It was awful...

Much as I love my boys, when they are intact they can't stay in the house... it's just not livable..

It seems like you may be a little biased... Not ALL male cats spray like that... Sylvester and 3 males prior that I had never did, but 2 that my sister had were real bad about it... It is almost like you are convicting them before the offense or the trial.

Were your males intact? Neutered males are just fine, I have two of them here in my house. As I said in other comments, it is not necessarily the spraying, it is the effect the male hormones have on the urine pungency.

Toilet training? Yes, I started that years ago and then got a Savannah kitten that thinks an open toilet is a wading pool and hence all toilet lids stay down :)

I think the topic is concerning intact male cats, not neutered ones. I have had one stud boy who did not spray ever, and one who was THE worst smelling sprayer ever. I imagine I can still smell the stench 2 years later, long after he is gone to a pet home...it was like rancid skunk smell...only 20 times worse. And I do keep my boys in my home. It takes a LOT of work ( a lot of cleaning, puppy pee pads clipped up and spread everywhere in their area to catch the spray), to not have my house smelling like a giant cat urinal...one of my family members is very sensitive to odors and quick to point out offensive ones, and even she admits she would never know I had a male cat living inside, so I must be doing something right...

None of my cats were neutered... nor were my sisters... I know that is there trend. I think that RascalDad does not have problems either but I do not know if they have been neutered or not. Like I say Sylvester and my last 5 cats NEVER did that, and 3 of them were brothers living together.

I was looking at litter quitter and that was an interesting concept. But wading pool? Oh no.,well at least you know they are just fine with baths then to clean the wading pool water off haha

Think maybe when my future cat is in quarantine it may be the best time? While they are in the bathroom anyways for two weeks? So they just learn right from the shoot?
