How vocal are your Savannahs?

My Savannahs are not chatty, I would go crazy with a chatty cat. Joyce knows, it was a reason I placed Thandi because she WAS a talkative cat. Drove me crazy.

But... to develop our breed Oriental Shorthairs were used, which are Siamese in different outfits...so of course are vocal cats. Bengals can be chatty too, and they were used in our breed. So I think some of that comes through in some of our cats.

in your Leo's case, it may be a combination of a natural propensity to wish to communicate...some unsettledness from the trip and he's still getting settled back in... some learned behavior as meowing gets him attention...or possibly loneliness setting in if he's an only kitty?

Very good points brought up by everyone. Leo loves the outdoors and he is becoming a pro on the leash. The only issue is that he has a tendency to sprint from one place to another sporadically. One moment he will be very nonchalant, and the next he is dragging my fiancee across the grass. We were walking him yesterday and a person walked by and said, "Is that a cat?" I said, "Yes it is!" He replied, "DAMN I THOUGHT IT WAS A CHEETAH." The way people react to him is pretty entertaining.

I'm going to try and take a video of Leo's ambush game he likes to play. He's very good at it.

Mystique the dog/cat;Seraphimah spunky kitty
Mystique is very vocal and chatty. She seems to have a different meow for everything.

If we pick her up and move her from something she is determined to explore, she lets out a huge meow, like she is giving us heck (has a high and low tone to it and drawn out). If she is content Mystique will sometimes do a short meow, like a chirping sound. If she wants attention she will give out the long drawn out meows and follow us around till she is picked up and cuddled. If we have taken her on a trip, she will go back to the main door and let out howls and cries till we tell her that she will come on a trip again.

Seems very smart and knows what she does and doesn't want and lets us know by chatting.

I have one savannah who loves to express himself with many different noises.
Very low pitch noises and sings at night and mornings. He makes also the same sound as a pigeon and purrs very loud. he makes puffing sounds also when he is upset or excited with a queen.

I have orientals also, and they don't sound like him at all. And are not as talkative as him.
I was wondering if it was more of a bengal trait to be so vocal ???
I heard bengals are very noisy ???

My other savannahs are all very quiet, kittens also. My F3C chirps mostly.
I am using him for the first time with a queen, hoping the kittens are quiet (fingers crossed).

The minute I leave the house Duma is up in the 2nd floor window box: "How could you leave me here? I miss you! Come back! Take me with you!"

(some days I think that really is what he's saying and I really am an animal communicator lol)

If I'm in the front of the house talking to a neighbor, he will go on the entire time.

He also does it most days when I come home from work, especially when I get home a little later than normal.

I live in a condo complex and my neighbors can hear him at the end of the complex. He doesn't sound like a cat, but I'm not sure exactly what he sounds like, maybe a mini-lion. I'll have to film it one day.

Most times, though, he's not too chatty, that's what Ragdolls are for, I suppose, they walk around making bipp boop noises, little grunts almost, "Yes I'm happy but a treat would do me good right 'bout now," with the occasional, "I need to be picked up because my feet are tired and I want attention." I remember reading somewhere that if you have more than one cat, often one of the cats will become "the voice" of the pack, and the other doesn't talk as often.

Lol! I am an animal communicator as well, and Zeddie is super vocal outside and inside lol. If I am gone too long and she doesn't know where I've gone, she will ask me where I am...doesn't matter what I am doing. How dare I leave her?!
I should have known this would happen...I named her a royalty name AND a talkative name

Nyah is a Chatty Cathy. She talks and talks, she holds conversations with you. She talks back when told no, and will yell when food isn't being delivered quickly enough or she isn't getting her way. She is not a quiet girl!

Diablo has been a talker since he came home. He has a different noises for different things. One noise for food, another for play, another for walk, one that tells us he is frustrated, etc.

Jarvis has become a talker in the last 3 months. He communicates to ask for attain.

Mickey rarely vocalizes, and it is ALWAYS because he wants to cuddle. He informs us of his wishes about 1x per day.
