Hi all, bit of a strange thing going on this evening with Vito. He is best friends with our rag doll neutered boy Tuco and the Two of them get on great as a rule, always playing and chasing and will snuggle up together.
However tonight he has been mounting Tuco, grabbing him by the neck and trying to mate, (with his little penis out) obviously tuco protesting and chucks him off.
Vito's not being aggressive with him, any ideas what's going on here. Both boys are neutered. Any thoughts appreciated.
There's a chance Franco's presence is part of the reason for this. I can't remember how old Vito is but if he's nearly 2 or 3 yrs. full mature behavior may be starting to kick in also.

One thing to keep in mind, particularly when Franco is fully integrated into the house, is resource issues. You are their biggest resource and sharing your time equally with all 3 will be important. Same with toys and cat trees/perches/litter boxes. I've just gone through the year from hell due to this problem and after a consult with Marilyn Krieger (thecatcoach.com) I'm making environmental changes to alleviate really ugly and painful behaviors among my 4 SVs. More cat trees, and when I buy toys, I buy 4 of the same thing so they can all have access to the same thing. There's much more involved but wanted to give you a heads up that you may be seeing a lot of new pleasant and unpleasant behaviors as time goes on.

Lesley, I continue to be puzzled by my two's behavior... Though I do have a better appreciation of the word "catty"!

My 2 appear to be frenemies... And HB sits on top of / mounts WC and grabs him by the neck, on a regular basis. I previously shared the video below of this behavior, though it also happens with HB sitting on WC's back. It seems HB wants to control WC, and WC doesn't much care. But I haven't seen any humping or penises out! WC never tries this on HB... And HB often acts scared of WC's rambunctious attempts to play. So in this case I think HB is feeling insecure and trying to feel he is in control.

But I have read numerous accounts of neutered male cats attempting to have sexual relationships with other cats, blankets, and even humans legs, which I think may be different than dominance and is more self soothing?

From what I have been reading what Witchy is saying about resource sharing is correct, and as cats are not pack animals they don't really want to be the boss of other cats, they just need to feel they have worked out secure access to available resources. But this may be different than what is inspiring Vito to mount Tuco!

@Moggiesnewmom
That is exactly what my 2 do. Lol

As far as other cats mounting blankets /cats etc
I've seen it when cats and even dogs that where neutered when they were older.
Ive even seen older neutered female dogs do it..

Hippy, I have a friend who's female dog has a stuffed toy who's function earned it the name Humpy... so I guess sometimes our pets can have an imaginary sex life!

Witchy, after reading what you have been going through with your cats, I wondered if your house has any point that you could create a double doored divider? I don't like to make assumptions about what might work for people's personal living situations, but I wonder if it could work to create a divider, and then give the cats in one 1/2 of the house access to the other 1/2 of the house through creating a series of screened in walkways and lounging areas that go into the 1/2 of the house they are not allowed to free roam. By "screened" I mean something like the heavy duty 1/4 inch mesh hardware cloth. That way all the cats could be wherever they want, but the ones that fight would be kept from direct contact. It is also possible to create sliding barriers to keep them out of some tunnels or areas, if things get weird. My neighbours cat is very territorial, and used to come over and hurl himself against my cats enclosed tunnels and enclosures, but things gradually de-escalated as they were prevented from any direct contact. So maybe something like this might help?

Something like this except using screening to keep them from direct contact....

I am so happy whenever I see my 2 enjoying each other, and crushed when their relationship seems strained, I can only imagine how sad this situation must be....

Funny thing today.
Xander was running after Bella and she stopped and turned side on to him.
He ran into her and then backup and went at her again and at the last moment went under her like she was a bridge.

The times when you wished you had a video camera recording. to catch funny things like that

Sean, I know what you mean... I miss getting a video of so many amazing antics!

Picture of HB enjoying his dusty walnut drying rack last night, that hangs just below the ceiling, above the wood stove. I know it isn’t pretty, but it works for curing walnuts, and this has become HB’s special private spot. WC hasn’t been allowed up there since he was a kitten. And my hand usually gets Serval slapped if I try and pat him up there. WCs special spot is in the chair in front of the fire. 061D2E83-B3F0-4FE1-8243-47D5DEE0BA79.jpeg

Thanks for the heads up, Vito is 14 months now and still growing like a weed. We invested in more cat trees and hide away and litter trays which I thought would be needed, trouble is they all want to use the same one, they have literally loads of toys but will take on board your advice about having a few of the same things, trying my best to ensure everyone is getting equal attention, but it is clear to see that Vito wants more. Being a Savannah mummy is a demanding job.
