I'm a new member looking for a kitten and I have a question

Jungleboy as long as you don't get hung up on a guarantee of size, you'll have no trouble finding an exotic looking SV. There are so many variables that can't be predicted. I have 2 F2s. Juba is an F2B, 34% serval, weights 14lbs, is 14" tall at the shoulder, and is stocky. Maliik is F2A, 25% serval (his dad is an Egyptian Mau), weighs 20lbs, is a tad over 16" tall at the shoulder and is very long. Maliik is a large and very strong cat.

Juba is easy to handle, a lover, never met anyone he didn't like. I can't pick Maliik up. He has to be tranquilized for routine vet visits. God forbid he ever gets sick and needs daily medication because I couldn't administer them. Guess what I'm saying is if you have size and don't have a cat who is easy to handle life can be a bit difficult.

Be sure to ask the breeder you choose a lot of questions. If possible, choose one close to you because it is easier to ensure that the breeder does, indeed, socialize the cats if you can visit and see for yourself. A well socialized cat, IMHO, is far more important than size. Even an unsocialized smaller cat can make life more challenging.

Thanks Deborah. Unfortunately I'm a but hung up on the size (their really great height and length) cause that is one of the first things that attracted me to the breed. But yet you are 100% correct, if my cat isn't easy to handle and if I can't even pick him up then whats the point? That's why, like you say it is definitely best if I could find a breeder close-by where I could visit and meet the kittens that would be great.

Very true, Paige! My F6C boy is very tall and long legged. He's also very laid back and super easy to handle.

When we pick him up we are in danger of a face licking or hair grooming session:)

LOL, Pam! I was just thinking of Taj and how he ran out the door yesterday (again) and didn't go anywhere...one of my neighbors scooped him up and handed him to me...I scoop him up all the time and give him a kiss or two and put him down...he does not like to be held for long, but he is such a sweet, sweet boy. And a big big boy!

So one never knows...every kitten is an individual ;)

I all depends. They aren't all large. There can be some very large F4 and F5 boys, usually the girls are smaller.

That is not necessarily true...you really need to look at the kitten's parents and lineage...my F6 SBT is larger than most F3's and many F2's. There just is no guarantee on size...talk to breeders, look at kittens and you should be able to find what you are looking for.
Yup, I just brought home an F5 SBT boy today - he was in a 24" crate and could not lie down completely even when he tried to lie catty-cornered in it. I was amazed at how big he is at this generation. His sister is big too, but not this big! I definitely have f2s and f3s that are smaller than he is.

For what it's worth, careful what you ask for. My son wanted a BIG cat. So that's what the breeder said he would get. An F3 male at 20 pounds adult. (He got that!, and more!) A moose of a cat. But oh what a challenge! Lovable and chatty, but he knocks everything off of ANY elevated surface. Incorrigible.
Talk to the breeders. They usually have a good handle on what their program produces, and feedback from their customer's experiences.
These are active cats. Seriously. My advice to anybody wanting a Savannah is: These cats are far more active than you would ever expect. They need the full run of the house. They need daily attention and interaction. But you will be rewarded for this daily interaction.
