I want to thank everyone for their condolences, it is much appreciated.

Today was not all perfect... At work today (my first day back), I did not have any problems, but Elsa really missed not having any company... Today when I got home she was crying at the door real bad... I do not know if she is going to get over it or what my solution will be for the long term.... Since I work 12 hour days, day boarding her would not be a viable option, as not many places open up prior to 6 AM... Tonight, she will not let me out of her site...

In the future, I am looking into another friend for her, probably a pup to grow up with, but right now it is just too soon... I am not going to get another dog to replace Jake, but no dog could do that, just as Elsa did not replace Sylvester... We will see what the future brings for us.

Animals do grieve as well, so please keep an eye on her. Do you leave a tv or something on for her?

The last time I had a cat die, his lifelong companion went into a deep depression, became a velcro kitty, stopped eating for a week, then developed stomach issues and diarrhea. She took his death really hard. It took her several months to get back to normal. By that time I had brought home my first SV and while she didn't bond with him, it was obvious that having someone else in the house while I was at work helped her.

Elsa is going to need time and lots of love and attention from you before she feels ok again.

Elsa has not stopped eating, that has not changed... She is just lonely and hear her Meowing before I get into the house... And yes, he is a Velcro Kitty... She won't let me get out of view, but she never has either.

Just give her as much attention as you can John, until you decide to adopt a new fur baby.
Kilifi did the same thing when my last DSH, Merlin, passed. But she cried real tears.

No one can fill Jake's spot in Elsa's heart, just like no one can fill it his loss your heart. She is grieving his loss, but with your support she will get better - just give her lots of love, attention, and time.
