Kravenheart....the Cornell Feline Health Center, which conducted research on the FIP vaccine, recommends against its use. I cannot fathom why your vet would choose to administer a vaccine that does not have substantial proof of effectiveness against preventing the disease and may increase antibody response to it. I'm sitting here fantasizing about slowly choking the life out of that vet. Seriously angry about this.

So to be clear, the kitten was given the FeLV vaccine, not the FIV vaccine nor the FIP vaccine (which really doesn't prevent FIP nor even general Coronavirus infection)...?

In terms of the bloating, is it fluid or gas buildup? If fluid, then I would ask for it to be aspirated. A general albumin-globulin ratio is somewhat diagnostic but you can also PCR that fluid for Coronavirus and that is about as diagnostic as you can get.

She was only given the FELV vaccine. Both doctors do not believe her symptoms are a reaction to it. The bloating is fluid, but neither vet thinks draining it would be helpful at this point. We are still waiting for the test results from the fluid, because they did draw some.

The breeder is blaming us for this, she claims it is a reaction to the FELV. It was in the contract to not give her that vaccine, which I believe we told the vet.

Its been several days now and her symptoms arnt getting any worse, but they arnt getting any better either.

Kravenheart, thus is NOT your fault. It is not the felv vaccines fault.

Draining the fluid will simply make
Your kitten more comfortable. Which is important at this stage if it definitely is fip, because there is nothing else you can do except ensure they are as comfortable as possible.

No, I'm not a fan of "wait and see" and I refuse to sit by and do nothing. There is always a way, we just have to find it. IF it is FIP, Ive found a research paper that had some success with Polyprenyl Immunostimulant. Gonna bring it up to the vet as an option.

I have not kept up on FIP research but as of last year there was only one company in the US licensed to dispense Polyprenyl Immunostimulant. The person to contact is Tanya Kuritz, her email is: kuritzt@yahoo.com However, you first need to make sure that it really is FIP. The best way to do that is to aspirate fluid from the belly and test if for FeCOV. If it is in the fluid then it is assuredly FIP as Corona virus is not normally found outside of the stool. If positive then you can justify the cost of the PI, if negative then you still have time to research other possible (and potentially curable) causes.

How is Appa doing?

Appa is still hanging in there. Its been over a week and we still havent gotten the test results back. I am extremly annoyed with this vet. We were told it would be 48-72 hours, now its 5-7 buisness days. I feel like every day she acts a little bit better, but she is still extremly lethargic. Her belly is still bloated and she develops a fever every day in the afternoon, although its usally gone by the next morning. She eats and drinks normally though. My fiancee spends every free moment holding her, and Appa has been far more vocal these past few mornings. She is also starting to show interest in whatever my fiancee is doing, although she wont play like she used to.

Sometimes these tests take a bit longer, so hang in there.

I'm glad Appa seems to be doing a little bit better...is she pooping?
