My Kitten Dangers Checklist

So, I have a question! After your kitties grow up, must you continue to childproof all items and worry all the time if you dropped something they might ingest?? Right now, If I drop anything (piece of paper, plastic etc..) my female jumps on it as if some great meal item, and I wonder if they ever grow out of that?? Thanks for the input...
YES! My older F2 boys are as bad as my kittens. Our Maine Coon teenager is as bad as everyone else in the household as well.

Yes, I always try to make sure that potential Savannah owners understand that they will be living with a perpetual two year old for the next 15 or so years, and they must be prepared to make that commitment.
Exactly Patti! Like a puppy that never grows up as far as energy and potential for mischief.

I lost an abyssinian to caulking I was using in the stud pen. It was dry but he still ate some and started to seizure. the emergency clinic checked the ingredients and it contained the same ingredient as anti freeze !
it was DAP caulking.. so be careful ! he ate just a small piece that was loose and he could pull off and then started seizuring a few hours later and could not be saved.

Wow so sorry to hear that, but thank you for the advice. These are definately things I would not necessarily think of....

I tried to contact the company that makes DAP to change their ingredients but they were not interested.
So now I boycott them and ALL of their products.
Dying from ethylene glycol poisioning is one of the worst deaths a cat or dog can go through.I was fortunate to catch my baby right away and get him to the emergency clinic which kept him sedated until we could determine what was wrong as we had no idea what happened !!
Once we realized what must have happened and there is no cure for this .. we let him go.
It was terrible. Everyone who lets their animals run loose and be exposed to such dangers from brake fluid and anti freeze, should have seen my poor cat seizuring and dying...
they might change their mind about allowing their pet the "freedom of outdoors' ...

Theresa, I am so sorry to hear about your experience :(

Thank you for telling us; I would not have thought caulk was toxic....

Teresa, I am so sorry about your baby - that is terrible and I will be sure never to sue those products...I didn't think of it either, so am thankful for your post.

This is a list I give to my kitten customers. They find it very helpful, and I am sure there are other things to add...feel free!

Thanks, Pam. This is a great resource. I'd begun my own, so I merged them. I really think its great to go home before the kitten, say maybe with the contract.
