Just curious how long it took your neutered cat to 'come back to life'?

I know it's only been 2 days, but Shango is still very, very mellow. He certainly isn't active like he used to be. Wonder how long, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks or if ever again (loud, active, barking, jumping). I'd kind of think after 2 days post neutering I might start seeing some active trends, but nothing yet. His incision looks ok, it's not swellen and am still giving him the morphine like drug via the Vet (until tomorrow). He is unable to jump on the couch, I would presume from pain down there. Also, he's lost 5-6 oz post neutering and I'm not counting the normal 1 oz he normally gains per day. His appetite day 1 was ok, but since then has been deteriorating. All I can say, neutering is hard on a cat (yes I still believe it's the right thing to do, but I guess be prepared for some downsides). dj

The reason he is mellow is the "morphine like drug" you are giving him, LOL! He's off his face, in another dimension...

I think he will come back to life when he's off the drugs... that's what has been hard on him, not the surgery. I've had a number of kittens neutered here and they were not on heavy pain medication for days and they bounce back immediately.

ITA with Brigitte and Deborah. I skipped the pain meds after Ziggy's neuter and he was back to his normal crazy kitten ways the very next day. It's been a week, he's all healed and you can't even tell he had any 'work' done :)

Our little Chihuahua was spayed yesterday and was pretty miserable for the rest of the afternoon. As of this morning she is starting to play and seems to be doing really well. Getting Pettinic with torb for pain twice a day, but all in all incission looks good, appetite good and very comfortable at this time;>) Just know as Brigitte stated the meds can cause them to be off for a few days. On second thought we all know males do not tolerate pain as well as females;>) LOL I hope Shango recovers quickly;>)

Did you take him for the beer yet? Huh?
On another thought. Is his activity slowly increasing? Is his appetite improving? Is he becoming less reclusive? Is the jumping around slowly coming back?
The pain killer could be the factor here, but I am cautious and am wondering if there might be an infection starting to take hold. Odds are against it, but it can happen. If you answered no to the questions above, it might be worth a phone call to the vet to understand the recovery rate expectation.

Yeh, I'm going to ditch the last recommended doses of Buprenorphine (the morphine like drug), there were 2 more doses going into tomorrow. The last dose he got was this morning. He's already down 9 oz since the neutering 2 days ago and today much more lethargic since yesterday. He hasn't ate a thing today as far as I can tell. I have given him some water so he doesn't dehydrate. I don't know if it's the morphine, but yeh it's worth ditching to see if he improves.
