Pet Insurance

So, I have a new question for those of you that have pet insurance already. What does the insurance go by? Do they get a copy of the Health Record papers? I would assume they do? If so, I may be out of luck on getting Sorte's insurance to cover anything that has to do with his (questionable) murmur. I just saw this morning that his records show a bi-lateral heart murmur with a question mark by it (meaning the vet was not sure...)

Paul, what records? From the old vet?

Paul, although I'm not sure about pet insurance workings, have you tried calling anonymously to ask about what documentation they need if you mention you just adopted a cat?

I'm a little confused though, I thought you had asked the breeder for a few weeks delay in going to the intial vet visit for Sorte to get insurance sorted out. Did you get it or are you still choosing? If you got it already wouldn't the insurance company you chose have all the "required" documentation they needed? Then you don't need to send that in?

If not, I'm assuming insurance needs all paperwork on Sorte including the breeders vet visit, but it may come up under pre-exsisting then. But I believe policies differ but most insurances seem to label it pre-exsisting whether or not it's been formally diagnosed.

No, I have not tried calling them yet to see what they require.

Yes, I did ask the breeder for a delay on the vet visit. It takes 1 month for the insurance to kick in with Trupanion, so his month is up on May 7th, coming up soon. They have not asked for any information as of yet. I don't think they would be able to get the information anywhere else either.

What if my vet got to see the papers (which of course he needs), but I started a new sheet for the insurance, because his papers got "lost", LOL! I'm so bad.... Woops.

Paul...your vet really does not need to see the papers. When I went to a new vet once upon a time, I had no info on my DSH - they did not care...Trupanion will definitely ask for the health records from your vet when/if you file a claim.

That's what I like to hear. :) lol! Thanks for not making me feel like a lying criminal. Haha. I just want to make sure I can give my little man any treatment and care he needs/deserves.
