Pet Insurance

I would say you can start insurance on pets before you get them, because they do not require any sort of proof that you own the pet, they just ask for the age. Some companies just have a minimum age that you can begin insurance at.

And Paul, I would not bring the papers to your vet, they will make copies and put them on file. When you send a claim, you have to have your vet send in ALL medical records. I would have them start a new clean record :)

Yes, exactly J.B. If I would have known about pet insurance BEFORE I bought Sorte, I would have definitely tried to get the insurance ahead of time. I'm just very lucky the breeder allowed me the grace period of a month before taking him to the vet. He seems to be doing just fine, a little over a week to go, but I do wish I could have just brought him in within the original 3 days without worrying about things, for his sake and mine. LOL!

Thanks Alisha. That is definitely my new plan of action ;)

I am so glad I found this post I was about to ask about recommendations. hmm I think I may just do this because of the cost of vaccines. neuter, deworming and just having peace at mind I general. do these company's allow you to take service anywhere?

Often they won't offer as much if you are going holistic. I don't have pet insurance but my friend takes her girl holistic and said she doesn't get as much. Check it out first though ;)

I plan on both holistic and non, I wanted the ability to get two opinions and I'm planning on going to two separate vets. I've narrowed down to two that seem almost perfect. Between the two it seems to be perfect balance, the regular vet is closer to my home the other is about a half hour drive so not horrible but a little further than u had hoped. But that vet specifically is a holistic vet. I was comparing pricing of vaccines and upkeep looking into kitten packages. and then I compared with pricing for insurance provider whom includes routine care. For this first year it adds up rather well x combined with my care credit I think it will work great. plus it gives me peace at mind that no matter what I have coverage. I have also been looking into emergency fund account. I forgot what it's called but it takes a portion out of pay before taxes just like regular benefits at an employer and goes in an account for health care for your pet. It was food for thought
