pet only vs breeder

It is not true that breeders selling savannah kittens as pets means that the kitten may not be up to the standard. My kittens are all going as pets not breeders...I don't wish to sell my kittens as breeders at this time. Three of my kittens are definitely show quality - I just don't want to sell as breeders. My choice and doesn't mean they are not show or breeder quality.

Just curious, why would you not want your kittens to be sold as breeders? What difference does it make?

It can make a lot of difference...i will just leave it at that...i should rephrase though...i may consider selling a kitten to be bred, depending on the breeder.

Very cryptic So is the worry that the kitten might end up with a backyard breeder or some sort? Be bred too often? Just looking to be educated, nothing more

For me, it's sad when my breeders mature and have to be separated from the rest of the household because of spraying or other behaviors (e.g., aggression toward other cats). This is why my breeders are in a large room attached to my house with a screen (security) door separating us - so that I can always see and talk to them even if I don't always physically enter the room. Most cats do very well, even when in smaller enclosures or in separate facilities from the home, and males become pretty oblivious to all but female cats once they've matured. However this is not always the case. For instance, I have one male who wants nothing more than to cuddle and give head butts. He still does his job as a stud and seems happy enough in the stud room, but I am neutering him next week - I just think it's unfair not to give him the spoiled life he deserves and clearly wants.

I agree with Patti. I also have 2 stud males that would make great pets. I hate having them in separate kennels instead of in the house. I rarely sell my kittens as breeders, not because they aren't good enough, but most of my customers are looking for pets.

I don't envy you breeders.. I couldn't stand having to keep my trouble makers apart.. especially in separate kennels, rooms, or enclosures. Whenever Kronos and I come home from work, the reunion is always well worth the site. Kirby doesn't like change, so she stays home while Kronos goes to work with me.
