Hello
Moggiesnewmom
Thanks so much for your reply, yes it is indeed very baffling how they managed to miss the ribbon, I'm just actually off the phone with my vet, having emailed the photo of the offending object.
Vet was so apologetic that the radiographer didn't spot it, who was by all accounts a very experienced guy, however having worked as a vet nursing assistant for 25 years I know that linear foreign bodies are extremely difficult to spot, in this case especially, if it has been pushed against the wall of the small intestine. There was a 5 to 6cm piece of the small intestine showing up as extremely inflamed, the only explanation I see, is that the ribbon didn't show through the intestine due to the way it was sitting in there possibly with the degree of thickening of the intestine wall itself. Luckily no infection was present in the extensive blood work that was done. Hardly slept for nights with the worry.
However the main thing now is that it's out, hoooorah!! One very happy sav mummy.
Could have been very nasty indeed.
Have seen many objects that cats have swallowed over the years, some would make your toes curl, so needless to say, hubby and I spent ages last night, going through the enormous toy box, cutting off all dangly bits on toys, and double checking all the house for potential chewing hazzards. Our 3 other cats don't chew anything at all, but Vito, well he's a different story altogether.
So pleased HB puked up the cord himself, I wonder what goes through their minds at times. Vito, still being a kitten is so curious, and loves to test his adult teeth on anything he can find, including my arms (at 4am every morning, to try get me out of bed.)
