There is a 50 some page list of personal property items we need to replace and it's a good day when you can knock off 5 items. The other tough part of the process is that you don't necessarily think about with so many of your possessions is that you bought one you didn't care for a few times before you ended up with the one you like. Unfortunately that's not built into the insurance companies resolution mechanism.
I understand that.... One thing that I am doing is documenting on a spreadsheet (most with images) and keep it off site, so that if a misfortune were to happen, I will hopefully have less of a fight with the insurance company... I hope that never happens... But want to be prepared. I think that is something that everyone should do in some way.

We did have a video of belongings off site, but it dates back to 2005. Not much good as I would guess the turnover for 75% of our personal property is about 5 years. Seems awful short on a lot of the stuff but that's how are list seems to be from a cost/value perspective.
Actually 5 years is pretty good... Computers are rated for 3 years before they are out of date, and TV's around 5... HD is almost a thing of the past with the 4K right around the corner... 4K cameras are already on the market and that is 4 times better than the best 1080P on the market today... One thing that I am trying to do is to keep it updated as I get new items... It is easy to do if you make changes as things change, but a pain in the but if you only do it every couple of years... That is why I like the speadsheet and pictures. So easy to maintain, and using the cloud (even though it may not be as secure as I like) it keeps it off premise...

Well you could put it on an 8 inch floppy disk and store it in the basement. Or a 5 inch floppy, or one of the new 3.5 inch floppies. Or you could put it on tape.

WOW Carry... You are showing your age.... 8" floppy... How about a removable multi-disk platter. LOL, I had a guy that wanted to sell me one about 10 years ago....

Ahhhh. We still have one in the back room here. CDC 300 megabyte. Size of a small refrigerator. LOL Now you can do 50 times that in a pocket USB drive. And then some. And much faster too.
