Thanks Brigitte!

Made it through another 24 hours, so today we'll start allowing Kebu and Chongo to have some monitored time together. Hopefully it warms up in the next few days so I can get the windows open again, as I still believe this is a territorial issue and the culprit is outdoors and out of our control.

The only things I have to really combat that possible issue are the NurtureCalm collar and some ScatMats/Strips to keep him away from the doors and window seats. Not really wild about the negative reinforcement of the ScatMats, especially when they'll be in places that exposes the other cats to them upon Kebu's release from quarantine.

In other cases of that kind of thing, they suggest things like covering the bottom part of the windows. There's an adhesive kind of "frosted glass" you can buy in rolls at the hardware, so make the bottom part of the windows opaque and see if that helps?

Just wanted to update this, have still been having issues although we think we have found the culprit. Fortunately it's not Chongo creating the issues, and it isn't just the open air. It seems to be when ever we have guests over, the inappropriate peeing happens. Not sure how we'll manage this one, but any suggestions are welcome.

So he's being territorial about the guests. Does he know the people who are over? Maybe when people come over give him lots of treats and introduce him to them, as in pick him up and have them pet him. Keep using the collar and feliway. Try to ease his fears or territorial issues any way you can. Is he afraid of the guests or is he marking his territory?

He's always been a little weird with strangers. He'll nearly charge right up to them to inspect them, and maybe he'll decide that he likes them although pretty rare. He won't run and hide but rather stay right on top of them perhaps hissing if they try and pet him. He definitely can't be picked up or held as I'm the only one that seems to be able to get away with it and he absolutely hates my sister who is always insistent on attempting to pick him up.

So I'm sure I can't just lock him up while strangers are here, and him not being able to figure it out after they've departed.

Your sister needs to respect the cat's wishes and leave him alone. The only thing I can of other than putting him in an outdoor enclosure or shut away from guests is to rub a piece of fabric on his scent glands and then have your guests put the fabric somewhere on their person. I know, I know....I can hear your brain gears clanking away clear over here in Oregon...but it's worth a shot.

How frequently do you have visitors? How much of a hassle would be for them not to come over for a while and you instead go over to their house? Maybe let it be a month or so with no visitors and see if he gets better..

Definitely if he hates your sister picking him up, you need to have a talk with her and be clear that she is NOT to pick him up under any circumstances.

Is he peeing in a specific place when you have visitors?

Hi John, I've had a peeing issue with Taz (my F2 boy) since we brought in home almost 4 years ago. He's almost totally stopped except when we have people over. He's not a fan of other people except me and my husband. For the past few months I've instituted the "Dog Whisperer" policy when people enter the house. No touch, no talk and no eye contact. I tell any guest that they are to treat Taz as if he doesn't exist. It seems to have worked so far. Even if he comes to check the person out, I tell them to totally ignore him. He's very skittish around other people and when they come in and start talking to him or going towards him to pet he freaks and usually ends up peeing on either my sofa or bed. I have plastic carpet runners spicky side up on my sofa and close my bedroom door. Maybe this approach will help with your guy, having guests no acknowledge him might make him feel safer instead of overwhelmed. Good luck, I know how frustrating this is.
