RIP Rascal update (Rascal on the mend)

Been awhile since I posted. It's been a very rocky road. And it's not smooth yet. The next 24 hours should make or break. The hurdles are still high. We catch a break, then we get hit with a setback. And again. And again. The situation became very grave last night. Rascal is not out of the woods. We had no idea how serious this problem was when it was discovered 3 weeks ago. Rascal was in very bad shape to begin with. He didn't look it at all.
I wish I could give good news, but he is having multiple challenges to recovery. The last 12 hours have been good for him. But we have been at this point a couple of times only to get hit with a setback.
Thanks for all the support. Very much appreciated.

Update,
Surgeon called, and stated he felt we are in a better place than yesterday and pleased at continuing progress. He felt progress is being made, but is cautious about things still can be a challenge.

To clarify progress.
Rascal's liver and kidney are functioning. He is breathing is excellent and his abdominal muscles are adapting well to the new configuration (the correct anatomical oem design!).
The significant challenges are the internal bleeding of unknown origin which may be still occurring, albeit a considerably reduced rate over yesterday. We are praying this does not keep up. This put him in the grave condition last night.
Another major concern. His intestines have yet to be proven to be in working order.
But, to be fair, the NG feedings only started last night and he is not only tolerating them well, but the protein and albumin levels are responding nicely.
The next challenge, and this is a large hurdle, is the peritonitis and suspected pancreatitis. Basically the whole bunch of organs that are supposed to be south of the abdomen, and now reside appropriately, are seriously inflamed. This should be expected considering the totality of the surgery. It is the reduction of this inflammation, that can go either way, and is slow to progress, if at all. And that's about a 50/50 bet.

I just Facetimed with Rascal. He was alert and nuzzling them and giving licks. The surgeon thought he looked much better.

Wow, just seeing this now - I'm so sorry to hear about Rascal! Praying for his recovery and I'm thinking that he had significant issues, so it just may take a bit of time. Please keep us updated!

Glad to hear Rascal is doing better. The whole pancreatitis thing sounds like an exact replay of Dooley's issue pre-surgery and they chased after it for a few days as his pancreas was swollen. In all the whole ordeal was over a week long and when our regular IM vet returned post surgery she immediately pointed out that a bowel obstruction can cause swelling of the pancreas, and display pancreatitis symptoms.

Again, glad Rascal is on the mend and let the chipmunks know their reprieve is over and they need to start hunkering down again.
