I am just so disgusted!! This is why I hate people so much!! Never in a million years would I have anything to do with Detroit. This is what you deal with up there!! Ugh!!!!! Stuff like that gets me so worked up.... Best believe I would pay that person a visit if I knew who did it!!

For everyone wondering about the Savannah cat roaming about an inner city Detroit neighborhood....I can now confirm the cat is indeed dead. He was an F2 named Chum, and had escaped from his owners when they moved to a new home last fall. They had looked for him for months and never gave up hope in finding him. He was definitely not a cat let loose or turned out. We cannot blame the person who shot and killed him. Chum wandered 1.5 miles from his home into a very poor neighborhood of people who were worried about their children. These people probably cannot fathom a cat costing thousands of dollars. The cat had been in the neighborhood since last fall and was being fed along with feral cats. The cat HAD been reported to the Humane Society and police on numerous occasions, but with the city of Detroit being bankrupt, the money was not there to pursue a stray cat, and unfortunately, Chum was already shot and killed two days before the news stories aired. So please, no more comments about idiots shooting defenseless cats.....RIP Chum.

He was much loved, and they spent months looking for him. Unfortunately, Chum ended up in a very poor inner city Detroit neighborhood not far from his home. He had lived there since last fall when he turned up missing, and was being fed along with a feral colony. We know now that Chum was shot and killed two days before all the news stories aired.

Please don't blame the person who shot him. This was a very poor neighborhood, and the idea of owning a cat that cost thousands of dollars must have been unimaginable for them. They were worried about their children...and you can't blame them for that. It was a tragic situation all around.

I am so very sad for Chum's owners as they must have felt new hope when the news stories came out....RIP beautiful boy.

Exactly, it just seems a whole level sadder to me because his owners must have felt new hope from the news story and so close to getting their cat back... and it was too late :-(

I am trying to take the high road here with this incident....have you ever been to Detroit? You can be in a lovely neighborhood with huge, gorgeous homes and well manicured lawns and new cars, and cross the street into the ghetto with condemned houses, burned out cars up on cinder blocks and very poor, ignorant people. If you read any of the comments on the news stories at all, you will see what I mean. These people most likely have never seen nor heard of a Savannah, or any purebred breed of cat...most of them have probably never even been to the zoo a few miles away.

Believe me, I am very upset and can't stop crying over this. I am trying to make sense of this myself, and by focusing on the type of neighborhood Chum ended up in, it does help......AND if the money was there in Detroit to look for him when he was first reported last fall, this story would have a much happier ending....
