Savannah Cat in Detroit Needs Rescued

This is very upsetting. I agree with comments regarding the medias mishandling of this story. Why report this story in a way that allowed for people to be hopeful in the capturing of this cat! Very disgusted and saddened over the murdering of Chum.

Someone has to speak out. I agree with whoever called this a racist issue. My company wants to send me to another state for a year but refuses to let me stay in cat friendly housing, I was told I should just give my cat away (I didn't dare say I had more than one). I guarantee you they would not say stupid stuff like that if I had dogs or children. I know they are calling me a stupid old cat lady under their breath but I call them stupid old racist men.

I'm fed up, frankly. Maybe I'll get banned for saying this, but this racism has to stop. We're all god's children, including cats, big or small. If only we take the time to get to know one another and stop shooting each other in ignorance.

I feel the person that shot that cat didn't have NO AUTHORITY to do so in the first place ,especially in the city there...... somebody could of got hit from a stray bullet........their all nuts! Heck, I live out in the country and I get a pack of coyotes coming through my property quite often and I don't get out there and start shooting! RIP Chum....

If things do not work out with our poor Appa, (and we still have our fingers crossed) my fiancee and I had discussed trying to give a home to a savannah that needed rescuing instead.

Guys, i don't see how this is a race issue and i do not want to get into a race discussion on this forum. I'm sure there are other venues for that.

I do agree that people are ignorant everywhere.

Kravenheart, rescue savannahs are few and far between.

Rest in Peace Chum. I have a hard time understanding why anyone needs a gun unless it is for your job. Yes, some cats are bigger than others, but there are some dogs that are also huge ( have you ever seen an Irish Wolfhound? My first encounter was when I was walking a miniature poodle and these 2 dogs looked at me over the top of a car, and they were on all 4 legs. When they stood on their hind legs, they were taller than the man walking them, and he was not short!) My heart goes out to the family that lost their beloved pet. Many of us have had their cat escape and fortunately most came home safely. Sue

EDIT, I believed (in error) there were local reports in Detroit concerning this cat prior to the report in Florida. Thus I retract this post. However, as there are further postings concerning this opinion, I will leave it on the thread to to provide clarity as to why and what is being said. My apologies for misleading the forum. RD


I gave this some thought over night. And then it hit me. How did this situation get out of control? Irresponsible reporting. Sensationalism. Getting people worked up. Make something to grab the attention of the masses. Result: increased ignorance. A loved dead pet. Even more folks worked up.
But what really gets me angry, is that the initial reports, in essence, promoted animal cruelty. If the finger of blame needs to be pointed, start with the first news report of this event. Trace it all the way back. See if it was accurate and responsible and walk it forward all the way to the article that most of us saw. There is an entire field of human irresponsibility and fostering of animal cruelty to be found. Disgusting.

So let's look at the facts...the cat was killed last Thursday before the media reports, so the media is not really responsible for the cat's death...they are however responsible for inaccurate, ridiculous reporting...

This poor baby had been missing since last fall, as far as I know...
