Pam Flachs
Savannah Super Cat
My favorite girl (a DSH) loves going outdoors on a harness and leash to eat grass. When she sees her pink harness, she gets very excited and talks up a storm about going out
One fine afternoon, my fiance and I were sitting on the front porch, enjoying our coffee and cigarettes (no comments, please
while Moki grazed near us on the lawn. We were enjoying watching the various birds and butterflies in the garden....then noticed a very large bird circling far overhead. As it neared our house, we could see it was a bald eagle. I knew there were a pair of eagles living in the park at the end of our street, so the sight was not unexpected but still rare. We watched it for a while calmly circling above, marveling that such a magnificent bird would live in town...then it dropped and flew around our very tall oak tree in the front yard, and on its second circuit, the eagle turned its head back and eyed my forgotten kitty...I screamed, flew off the porch, grabbed Moki and ran with her into the house while Ol' Baldy flew away...disappointed, I believe, that I foiled his dinner plans. I was so shaken by that experience that I have not brought another cat outside since that day. I've been told that I was incredibly lucky the eagle did not grab Moki that hot summer day. I often wonder now if the eagle or its mate were responsible for the slow disappearance of all the neighborhood strays...I estimated once around 12-15 cats; now there are none. I also wonder if the eagle knew that quiet dead-end street was a source of food, and I was just damn lucky he didn't get one last meal.....
