Thank you Paige, how much exactly is the portion of the food twice a day?

It really depends on the cat...what type of food is she eating? Canned food? If so, it usually tells you the suggested feeding schedule...
Yes can food holistic earthborn. I ll look in to it.

I think that if your vet has examined your cat and finds her overweight, then they just might be right. It's harder for us to tell from a picture!

In terms of weight loss, if she is chubby on the amount she is being given then cutting it back a little will work. Compare the amount you are giving to the recommendations on the can but all cats are not created equal (nor are humans).... and just like us, increasing their activity can make a difference also ;-)

Well that would be a challenge then if you have an overweight cat... it's like keeping bowls of snacks out when you are trying to lose weight!

I am sure I over fed Layla and now she is back to 3 servings a day and I leave dry food out for her but she hardly touches it.

I am reading to Kovu that kittens get fed only 3 times a day at a very reputable breeders house as he whines for more food. He says that is terrible and I should stop reading this board if it is going to give me crazy ideas such as not feeding him 18 times a day (slight exaggeration for dramatic effect).

He eats 4 -5 times a day. I can tell when he is going through another growth spurt, because he is a bottomless pit and is always starving. He is still very thin, so despite eating 1/2 a cow and 3 chickens daily, he isn't over eating. I am concerned Nyah may end up on the chubby Savannah program as she has decided she should eat if Kovu gets something. I have started to divide her regular portions up so she thinks she is getting fed the same as him, but it is ending up like two little specs of meat in her bowl. She is starting to stare at his bowl when I am bringing it to his eating area now...I think she may be on to me!

My Pixiebob Jammu has the primordial pouch. He looked so fat compared to Rafiki that I had my vet examine him for obesity at 6 months. She laughed at me and stated that he is simply made that way. The pouch is soft and squishy indeed but my vet said that she could easily count the vertebraes on his spine so he was not fat at all.

Rafiki is 10 lbs more or less (bathroom scale). She is a 11 month old F3C female fed a raw diet.
