Spay incision question. Pics added.

When I had Chloe spayed (my non-sv cat), the vet I went to made an incision that looked like they used a butter knife rather than a precision surgical instrument. Looked terrible! She was lethargic for a couple of weeks. Also gave me antibiotics and some pain meds. It was sad seeing her bump into things as my little conehead, but after it was all over with, she seemed so much happier, especially once the cone came off lol. It'll be worth it in the long run. Good luck!

The incision site looks like its drained some, it doesn't have the large, hard, lump that was there yesterday. I can't get her to take the pain med without throwing up or spitting it out. And I'm only down to 1 left. The vet only gave me 1 pill & said to cut it into fourths. :/ Why he thought 1 pill would be enough, I dont even know. I'm tempted to just pay to take her to our own vet and have her looked over. She just seems so much more miserable today.

Usually she sits behind my bedroom door & hisses when Kovu tries to play with her through the door. But today she just sits there like she doesn't even have the energy to be annoyed by him. If she isn't acting any better tomorrow I'm going to talk to the rescue about her getting seen by another vet. If they wont pay for it then I will for sure.

I have to meet up with them anyway, I have a Russian Blue living in my bathroom right now that I was fostering for them for a couple days. She's a beauty, but her new human is coming to pick her up tomorrow. The rescue is just crazy full with cats & kittens right now. So I have Kovu roaming around the house, Sarabi in my bedroom, and Blue (Elijah named her) living in the bathroom.

she might need liquid pain medicine. she is probably throwing up because of the bitter taste a cut up pain pill would make... poor thing!

She is even spitting out and/or vomiting the liquid antibiotics too. Girl is being STUBBORN.

I tried (on 2 separate occasions) smashing the pill & mixing it in her canned food & she wont touch it. Tried the same with the antibiotic & she wont touch it either.

Poor girl would probably feel a lot better if she'd just let me get some medicine in her.

I would be a bit concerned that she is not taking her antibiotics and now acting lethargic. She may need a shot of Convenia if you can't get the oral antibiotics down her ...

She is SLOWLY eating some wet food now (mixed with the antibiotic). She is dipping her paw in, scooping some up with the paw, & licking it off. I'm still taking her with me to the rescue tomorrow. Maybe one of them can show me a more effective way of trying to get it in her. I think I'm just not fast enough. Like I'm afraid that if I hold her firmly that I'll hurt her so it slows me down. Know what I mean?

I'd hate for her to have to recover locked up in a kennel, but if she isn't going to let me give her the meds she NEEDS then she may just have to. :(

Sometimes it's easier to have two people to medicate her - one to hold her and one to pop the med down. Do you have anyone that can help you?

No. :( I don't think my 5 year old would make a good candidate.

I think two people would make a WORLD of difference.

Maybe try something like salmon or a human grade food? I know after whip was sick only thing the jerk would eat was fresh salmon. (My vet said find anything lol)

Ended up taking her to the ER. THe clinic did such a terrible job stapling her back up. :( Her staples had completely fallen out. The ER decided not to stitch her back up, but gave her a stronger antibiotic & some liquid pain meds, the kind that only has to be put on the gums so it should be super easy to give her.

I was told when I got her that she ate Blue Buffalo, so thats what I've been trying to feed her. Both dry & wet. She ate the dry just fine before she was spayed. Then yesterday the rescue said something about fancy feast canned food, so I went out & bought a couple cans of that for her & she ate about 1/2 a can mixed with a high calorie supplement I was given for her.

She had TERRIBLE diarrhea after we got back from the ER. Luckily she made it to the litter box both times. She seems to be acting MUCH better this morning. No diarrhea so far yet today & its nearly 11 am.
