Really praying for you and Teukie, Stormi. I'm with Paige...it doesn't have to be a death sentence. Some cats live for some time with FeLV.

It may not be FeLV either... A positive snap test (the one they do at the vet's) is notorious for false positives. If the IFA is also positive then you would take that more seriously...even the ELISA done in the laboratory is more reliable (but still more prone to false positives).

My Zari is a shining example of a false FeLV result with EVERY appearance of the disease of FeLV. Every specialist bar one insisted she had FeLV at the time. It seemed hopeless.

I refused to accept the diagnosis because I knew she couldn't have contracted the virus. She was third generation of my cattery which is indoor only. Every cat that comes in is tested... it would be a huge long shot for that virus to somehow escape detection for her to be exposed.

Zari required insane amounts of vetting...blood transfusions, chemotherapy (because they were insisting she might still have FeLV) and steroids. But a year and half later she's still here and healthier than ever.

Further testing proved it was NOT FeLV. PCR testing of her bone marrow failed to find the virus. Twice. Her specialist talked about writing up her as a case report but he also retired last December so that isn't going to happen. He felt that these cases may occur but people give up at the first test hence we don't hear about the strange cases...

I took Teukie's mom Shere Tani and his sister Chipukizi to get FeLV tested this afternoon for my own piece of mind and they were negative. In the meantime I received an email from Stormi that it wasn't feline leukemia they were dealing with after all, but I don't have any further details on what they found. She was going to try to fax me the records (if my fax machine cooperates...)

Ah good...that is exactly why I never give up on any kitten or cat...results can be wrong...waiting to hear what the issue is...

Sadly there was no positive outcome other than he no longer hurts.

He had multiple organ issues going on.. Hemorrhage, kidneys, lungs, liver.. There was nothing they could do. He is no longer hurting or short on breath. He is climbing the tallest cat trees he wants with unlimited hammocks.. He loved the round hammocks..

I am here if you need Stormi. As are others here. He will be missed. He was family. His pain and shortness of breath is no longer a part of his experience. He is happy.
Sending love to you Stormi.
