Travelling through Canada

Ok thanks for your help! I will call and see what they say, may be worth saving the extra travel time for us and for Simon, maybe it won't be, depending if it seems fuzzy as to the rules and fees and everything.

Have you traveled through Canada sugarislove ?

If you speak with the border get a name and interaction ID/confirmation number. I did this every step of the way and it would definitely help if everyone is not on the same page.

Of who I am on the phone with? Or who is at the border? Saw you said you were traveling with your F2. Might be slightly easier with our F6

I know it would be easier, but I would never take a risk like Cary said!

I travelled by plane so I dealt with the airlines, and airport officials, but for yourself I did a quick Google search and found a couple numbers for the Detroit border? Even if they aren't the correct ones you could ask them to transfer you to someone in that area. Remember you need to know the rules coming and going through Canada aka both US and Canadian officials.

I think @Pam Flachs traveled from Detroit to Canada once not too long ago, so she may be able to help you, Grace! An F6 is not as bad as an F2, as far as paperwork...Health Certificate, 5 gen pedigree and proof of rabies is all I believe you need...that is what I was told when I was going to drive from Jersey to Ontario...

That being said...I drove to Michigan from NJ last year and while the trip was loooong...I broke it up into two days...stopped in PA for the night...but I did see that if I had gone through Canada it would have been shorter...that being said...I still would choose not to go through Canada. In some ways, it can end up being longer, should you be detained at the border for any reason and that time of year gets busy...I was facing the same same time travel as you are, less about an hour...it took me about 13 hours total to get there and 11 to get home :)

I think the rules for traveling through Canada are different from importing a Savannah into Canada. To be safe I would recommend you call the US Fish and Wildlife office of whatever border crossing you are planning on passing though, as well as the Canadian Border Patrol, just to make sure.

You aren't living in Canada though, so it is likely different. I know you can get a passport for your cat. I believe that is how my breeder travelled from Canada to the states...? Not 100% sure although I do know they exist as I briefly looked into it

Canadian cat passport or American? I have never heard of this! Do they collect country stamps too?

I remember traveling from Los Angeles to Montreal with my Himy over 25 years ago. They had just changed the rules from requiring a legal ID to needing a birth certificate but I was uninformed. I had everything for the cat (Health certificate + proof of rabies vaccine) but nothing for me and my soon-to-be-husband. The person in front of us was sent back for improper ID. Fortunately, I do speak the French Canadian dialect and the guy thought that it was rather amusing that the cat was legal but her humans were not and he let us through. On that particular trip, I was headed down to NY rather than staying in Canada

I would have to see if I can find the website back. I think there was a tab where you can pick your country. I'm sure health certificates and vaccination certificates are also needed. I'm sure you would also have to be aware of where you're going and how legal Savannahs are there
