Tritrichamonas?

My vet is open for treating, as Keljin's littermate has tested positive for tritrich. She understands my financial situation and that I am just wanting to try it, as we have been down so many routes so far. She is calling to have it compounded for me so we can have exact dosage, so now I don't have to wait for shipping, or the possibility of it not being as effective coming from a pigeon site.

I am bringing him in to be weighed tomorrow morning then it will be ordered :) I am finally happy with my vet! We had a good conversation and she understands every step we have been through so I feel at this point I don't need to switch vets anymore.

One question for any of the breeders on here, or owners opinions.. Should I bother my breeder about anything with my 1 year health guarantee? I don't know if I should be due any refund.. I bought Keljin for only $500, but I feel like I have spent easily another 500-1000 on his vet bills alone in four months.. I feel like I was sold an unhealthy kitten. I am not blaming the breeders for not knowing about it, but I am definitely voicing out to them to look into treating their cats and educating themselves on tritrich as well. Thoughts?

I would bring it up nicely? Does the breeder know? They can only offer. I have paid partial or full vet bills for buyers who end up with an unknown issue before. It is the decent thing to do. I would let them know all you spent with a gentle hint!

If they sold you a kitten with diarrhea then yes, they should do something.

I did that once with my whole litter of TF kittens. I didn't know at the time. I was treating with Metronitozole and was sure the diarrhea was due to a whole cube of butter the kittens had eaten while I was away. I didn't have a clue what Tri Trick was, neither did my vet. The buyer had money owed later which I allowed to be forgiven since she had spent so much on treating him. It was quite the learning experience. I hope they deal with the issue for future kittens!!!

Thanks, I think that is close to what I had in mind. I definitely want to stay nice and on good terms with them. My main concern is that they educate themselves and learn from it so they don't sell unhealthy kittens again. I think I am just stuck on how to ask. That was good to hear a similar experience from your perspective, it totally sounds like the right thing to do.

Oh no! It is too late now I have already paid for the test and it has been sent off. However since this is a GI PCR Panel, it is checking for many other things than just TriTrich so that makes me feel a little less bad about it.

My vet also told me results could be in as soon as this Saturday or as late as Tuesday.. I thought the test results took longer than that. *shrugs* - my vet has been getting careful directions and instructions from the lab they work with so I have been trusting everything she says.

If symptoms still persist and this test comes negative for everything, I too am going to print that sheet out and just ask to please please get me some ronidazole.

Breanna, I would let the breeder know what is going on and ask about the health guarantee...I'm sure the breeder knows and I'm sure thou have been educating her...

Maybe it will show something and you can rest easy...I think you did the right thing...not every case is TriTrich...hang tight for the test results...like Janet said though, I have always been told it takes two weeks for the system to clear of Flagyl or Prednisone or anything like it before a PCR can be done as the results may be skewed...
