Appa, with FIP

Appa is still doing better. She is eating much more now, than even before she got sick. Her belly is still a tiny bit bloated, but it never filled up after they aspirated it before. Still not playing as much as she used to, but much more active and vocal. Shes even been climbing around on the cat tree...and falling off it, just like before.

Our problem now is that she keeps peeing in the bed. Its always just a little bit, then she gets up and goes to the litter box and pees like normal. I think its the new medication she is on, but needless to say it is driving my fiancee nuts. Is there anything we can do? Really don't want to lock her into the bathroom at night, but this is the second time in 3 days. We live in an apartment with pay washers, so washing the peed on sheets and blankets is starting to add up.

As for the peeing, she may not be able to help it, so you may have to lock her pout of the bedroom...ask the vet if the news meds can cause this.

Unfortunately I can relate to the peeing..... My Siamese mix started that while in recovery from her spay and on medications.... Unfortunately we had to start keeping her out of the bedroom but she still sneaks in if the door is open for a minute.... And pees on the bed! :( just this weekend she has peed on the bed twice and yes it gets ridiculous when you have to pay to wash bedding!
My best advice is to keep her out of there, deodorize everything, and once she is fully recovered let her in under close supervision. :(
Inappropriate peers are the worst!!!!!!!!!!

You have the right to request a copy of Appa's vet records... I would do that. Or ask them to fax them to your new vet. That way you will know if that fluid was ever tested. I would want fluid from her belly to test positive via PCR for the virus before I would assume FIP. If there is fluid now, maybe your new vet can aspirate some and test it. ...
Plus- you are PAYING for all of these tests! You should know what you've been paying for! I know if your bills look anything like mine have from time to time- they are massive and you know- if you are paying for testing, it should be done.

Still thinking of beautiful Appa!

What kind of linens are on the bed? Be sure to wash them in a good enzyme cleaner such as Anti Icky Poo or Unique Distributors. If you have any down on the bed, get rid of it - down is a pee attractor. Is she peeing on the bed when your fiance is in it or when it is unoccupied? You can try putting a plastic tarp over the bed, that often deters cats from peeing on it because the urine will roll onto their feet which they don't like getting wet. Also, watch for behavioral clues - if she starts getting restless, or starts scratching around move her immediately to the litterbox.

I'm wondering if while she is ill and on medication, whether your fiancee needs to kinda remind Appa about peeing...so before she drops off to sleep put Appa in the box and give her a "good girl" if she does pee. If she wakes up in the middle of the night, give Appa another trip to the box... and when she wakes up in the morning the same thing.

Unfortunately we had to decide to shut Appa in the bathroom at night. :( My fiancee doesn't have time to clean up in the morning before she leaves for work. We are calling the vet tomorrow to ask about it.

She was doing it at night, while they were both sleeping in bed. As far as the liner, my fiancee had to get another because she couldnt get the original on by herself. She also washed the sheets twice before putting them back on. So I am confident there was no smell of pee, or down on the bed.

Our solution for now is to shut her in the bathroom at night. She didnt cry at all, so she may still remember being shut up when my fiancee first brought her home. She also didnt have any accidents. She is going to be given the run of the house, except for the bedroom, during the day. Hopefully in a few weeks when she goes off the medication, she will be back to using the litter box like normal.

Yesterday Appa took a turn for the worst. Her belly started bloating again, and this morning she had a fever. Shes also gone back to being very lethargic. :( We have a vet appointment this evening. But I don't know how much her little body can take. She was just starting to put back on some of the weight she had lost. Its been a month now since she started showing symptoms.
