We once had an orange kitty named Morris...that turned out to be a female...we tried changing her name to Molly but it didn't work and she went back to being Morris

I'm curious, when you got your kitten had it been to the breeder's vet at least once? I know I've mis-sexed kittens before but at the first vet visit my vet has broken the news to me. Pam, I know your feelings about that boy...and once it did work out for me! When Monkey was born we thought it a boy and I was so disappointed as I really really wanted a girl from Katie... and we checked a few times in the first couple weeks but decided it was a boy. Surprise at the first vet visit, when my vet broke it to me that the kitten had no penis! I made him take it back to get the other three vets there to confirm before I'd get excited over having my girl! Monkey still has funny markings under her tail, there's two dark puffs of fur under her tail that made us think boy...

Glad you got your Monkey girl after all! No, there's no mistaking those two little nuggets that make my kitten all boy...believe me, I've checked more than once, and even took pics to compare to his sister

I do want to say- as far as girls being mislabelled boys- when some babies are born, they are very swollen and it can look like little boy parts.

I have another questions about "balls". Usually for tabby they are dark, for silver almost white.
I have a BST boy with cream balls, the center is darker. I asked the breeder for his colors because I think he is "shaded" the air close to skin is yellow-cream, not the same as my other BST. The breeder told me he is only BST.
Do you think he is BST or shaded BST ?
and If he is shaded BST, is it a "standard color" ?

There is no "shaded" term for a BST, at least not in Savannahs. I believe it is a term used in Silver Persians and American Shorthairs.


My BST boy also has cream testicles. He is a BST with some roufousing (red). A BST is just a BST...whether they are the dark cool BST to a golden tabby. They all must have a black tail tip and black or near black toe pads to be considered a Brown Spotted Tabby.

So a shaded cat has no discernible pattern on the body or barring on the legs and neck as an adult, even though they may have had a tabby pattern at birth.

I think he is still BST but possibly the fading of his spots is making you think of shading...I don't think he will be a very contrasted bst when all grown up.

Juba's testicles were the size of peas. The vet laughed when she neutered him. Taji's were cantaloupes and he loved to stick his butt in my face to show them off. I had my revenge.

One the other side of the coin, I once had a male kitten sent to me with his belly shaved because the breeder's vet had a brain fart and didn't pay attention to the chart on neuter day. Luckily no cutting was done. When I told the story to my vet, she admitted that she'd done it too a few times on crazy busy surgery days.

Thank You so much for your info, not easy to have good reliable info on the colors. They are so different the BST coat colors (and textures), and have all the same term.
I was looking for more info about shaded and smoke (love smoke). Not a lot around.

Depending on the "way" you look at him. Sometimes the spots are nice, sometimes look faded depending on the angle i suppose. It is worse in the direct sun.
