Cougar Deterrant?

Just an update - since marking our territory with our urine, we have not seen a single new print. At least since the date of my last post. We have seen a large orange feral domestic scale the garden fence a few times tho, lol.

Last night, just about dusk we were out back and Mike actually saw the cougar (!!!) walking through the other side of the property (we haven't marked there at all as it's mostly blackberry brambles) I missed it, unfortunately, but he said it was indeed big. At least it's traveling through far opposite from where we are most - that's progress!

If it was me..... I'd be human marking with urine all over the property. Nothing like a good buffer zone with a beast that size......
(Not to mention - I would be packing when I walked back there. Just not worth the risk. Don't get me wrong, I love cats. But I love me and mine more.)
Another thought. If you happen to be feeding wild life, like bird seed and such, this might be be an attractant.

Thank you for the concern, sincerely. We are most definitely packing, and have widened the pee perimeter. Haven't ever fed the wildlife at all, they do just fine on their own.

Agreed, lol, no idea why, I should check it using my laptop, probably an issue with my phone is my best guess.

Scary stuff. We live in the most densely populated city in Ohio, over 10,000 people per square mile, and on a regular basis, coyotes are getting dogs while supposedly passing on the feral cats. I guess it's like sharks not really liking how humans taste, one bite then saying yuck and moving on.

Coyotes moved into Portland, Or about 5-6 years ago when I still lived there - same thing, lots of missing dogs, but cats didn't seem too impacted, and there are at least four that live around our house now (backed by BLM land). Too small for a cougar, or perhaps cats just aren't easy to catch! Our valley used to have a large population of wild turkeys, deer, and elk. Since the cougar moved in most of them are gone - we still see deer, but rarely, and they used to sleep in our yard every night. Scary for sure!
