You won't have to drive that far, I am in N.E. Ohio and if you want some scratching posts close to home buy a pack of fire place logs and put a base on them ,this should work well and the price is right, the way the cats went after the log I should have done this along time ago. Cody the wood worker lovin it. DSCN0546.JPG

Yeah, cats love wood, unfortunately I live in a desert so there are not too many thick tree branches around here, but firewood is a great idea!

I made this today for our female Savannah, she won't go outdoors with the males and she started scratching wood in the house, this was easy to make base is 1/2 plywood and log is fastened by 4 long wood screws that have been counter sunk in the base, your furry wood workers will like this, log is cotton wood

The ride never stops with Savannahs. Generally speaking, mine have mellowed out after 4 years, but from time to time, they will wake up at 4am (I sleep on the couch and they sleep with me) and chase after each other like bats outta hell. Imagine an 18lb cat and a 13lb cat chasing after each other at high speed, knocking over everything, and running up the stairs (live in an apartment so it sounds like a herd of cattle when they chase after each other). Then they fight each other (assuming it's play fighting) and the little one is extremely loud and vocal.

They refuse to listen to me and I have given up trying. On the rare occasions I do get pissed off (from being woken up at 4am), I will go to the kitchen sink, run the water, cup my hands and fill my hands up with a little bit of water and then throw it in their general direction. They usually chill out after that.

The biggest issue I'm dealing with now is they like to talk when I'm not around. I have determined that they want fresh dry food. I leave a bowl out 24/7 and they are allowed to eat at will. But once the top layer of dry food is consumed, they don't like the layers below that.

The neighbors give me dirty looks when I'm outside.

Have you tried any of the food puzzle things for the kibble to make them work for that dry food? Might keep them more occupied when you are not around?

Hey all!! I just got a new carpet and both my boys wont stop scratching it to pieces. I tried the scratch repellant from the pet store and even made my own from cinnamon, I need help please! What can I do? I was thinking of trying to make my own again but with lemmon grass oil, garlic oil, some kind of citrus again, maybe cinnamon, rosemary, lavender. and like a very dense mixture. Is this ok to do? anyone found a solution to this? They have a huge house and two giant cat tree's and a fishing pole with rabbits feet we play with. I dont understand. We did just move but everything was fine until the new (used) carpet. they did have a small dog - im hoping getting it cleaned will help - cause maybe they dont like the dog smell or the other lady's smell....? ugh

@MYNXX Is it all of the carpet or only a certain area? If it is centralized, I would try putting down a cheap rug that they can abuse on top of the area they like to scratch.

Also, you mentioned that you have cat trees but do you have any horizontal scratching areas? Since they're scratching the carpet, they clearly like to scratch horizontally. I would suggest getting several different types of horizontal cat scratchers (carpet, sisal, cardboard, etc.) to see which ones they prefer. They'll probably like the carpet ones since they like scratching on carpet but I would still get a few different ones to test.
