Doolittle's "woman behind the man"
Domestic Wild Cats ..... I dropped off an F3 to the airport this week and the things I heard about a local breeder named Taran Nolan
Guy at the desk - " what kind of cat is this ? A Savannah ? "
Me" yes it is "
Guy at the desk- " I think I've seen you in here a few times like a handful, I think I recognize you.... Not like that other breeder Tara that's in here all the time "
Me - " I have my reservations about that woman, IMO she's the most unethical breeder I've known "
Guy at desk " yeah that sounds about right "
Then proceeded to tell me things I never thought people could do. He said she's brought in fake health certificates, catching her a few times. The first time being she brought in a cat that he thought was not healthy and wondered how I. The world she got a HC, so this time he went to the back and called .... Sure enough THERE WAS NO RECORD OF ISSUED CERTIFICATE OR THE VET EVER SEEING THIS CAT! then he told me one time she tried to ship a cat to Norway but didn't have a cities permit, Norway said the cat was not legal and destroyed the cat :( She had told him she had about 17 females and she's a stay at home mom so she needs to make money so she breeds like crazy. He asked why my cats didn't have polydactyl paws... My reply was that it's not the breed standard and that is probably due to her using a outcross. The things I heard about how she treated the cats just shoving them in a crate and leaving. He said more often than not she did not bring a food & water bowl and they supplied it cause they felt bad, the few times that she did she brought paper cups and taped them but they were empty :( I just couldn't believe what he was telling me. Very upsetting to hear him say " at least it seems like you love your cats "
Ok, whoa... I had seen this thread awhile back but, at the time, just shook my head and hoped everyone who already got their babies was doing OK- didn't think I really had any standing to "start a rumble" with her (well, as an attorney I know I don't technically..) but recently I saw she had ads up so I enquired. I just got an email back from her husband; very...enlightening. If anyone is interested in what I found out please feel free to contact me. I can also post the email here if you guys feel it would be useful; there is no expectation of privacy in a situation like this and it would just be a re-post of the husband's own words. I think our experienced breeders and owners could parse it out and give all of us a clearer picture of what they are doing (hint: even as a newbie I can easily see these people are doing some VERY irresponsible things and could "hypothetically" be committing out and out fraud, though they have got wind of their rep and have taken some minor precautions with their wording). I'm tempted to respond with how I really feel (disgusted) but I know that wouldn't change anything. Perhaps there is a procedure to report them to some governing body? I see they ARE listed with TICA, but with no particular distinction AND they still aren't offering papers (lame reason on that one) for any but their "breeder" kittens out of their one actual Savannah, who is, "small and boring looking." Yikes!

I think that if the reply from the husband is enlightening then posting it is useful.

TICA can't do anything, especially as they are NOT selling registered kittens. It's not illegal to sell unregistered kittens, it's just not something an ethical responsible breeder does. Buyer beware, no papers no actual breed!

OK, warning: it's looonggg. BUT if I don't post it exactly as it came to me I could be in for a liable claim. So, here goes:

I agree with Brigitte... Feel free to enlighten us!

Ok, trying- it's just so flippin' long I can't just post it. I tried saving it as both a docx and a pdf but when I click "upload file" it doesn't give me an option to look in my documents. So, bear with me- I will figure this out...

Whew! Paige managed to get it posted. I would love to know what the breeders think...

Wow, so in their own words they believe in contributing to the overpopulation of kitties in shelters by selling unpapered mixed breed kittens unaltered with full permission to go breed them? Makes me so sad.

Not only that but they are making so many false claims. They simply would do better NOT calling their kittens "Savannahs" as they openly are not breeding to the breed standard and are not breeding Savannah to Savannah, they are mixing a number of different breeds of cats for a "wild" look and size it seems. Why not invent their own breed name?

These are Savannah mixes as best and they need to leave the F-number out of it as they are using it erroneously. They call their stud a fertile F3 Savannah, but he's NOT. He's an F3 Chausie maybe, or strictly speaking an F3 Jungle cat hybrid as he's not registered. The 3 generations is to the Jungle cat not the Serval, I believe his father was F5 or F6 Savannah while the mom was F2 Jungle Cat hence if he's Savannah at all it is F6 or more Savannah...but really he should be called by the breed name that is closer to the exotic cat hence he is an F3 Jungle Cat Hybrid/Chausie more than he can be a Savannah of any sort.

Their F1s are F1 Chausies, hence they are breeding Chausie mixes more than "Savannah" but they prefer to use the Savannah label to sell them. Seems false advertising to me!

The F2 kittens described are NOT considered F2A Savannahs, by TICA or anyone with a brain. They are F2 Chausies or Jungle Cat hybrids, but they can't even be A as that refers to REGISTRATION, which they say they don't do! LOL! Bigfoot is not an F3 Savannah, he's an F3 Jungle cat hybrid with a Savannah parent. That does not make him an F3 Savannah as that would be a cat with a Serval greatgrandparent and there has NEVER been a documented F3 Savannah male that was fertile. By not registering their cats they seem to think that means they can invent pedigrees! They say 33% wild blood but that is almost ALL Jungle cat hence they cling to the Savannah label, it's misleading and wrong.

F2 Jungle Cat hybrids do not sell for those pricetags, hence by pricing them cheaper than a REAL F2 Savannah they are IMHO hoping people just blindly fall for the tales they are telling and jump in before they realized they've been had. It's not fair to the cats. Chausies are a great breed of cat, they have their own appeal... why try to label these as something they aren't?
