I may be pulling up an older post but I'm trying to figure out if this is opinion or if this is general consensus among breeders.

I am wondering if your posts are just your own opinion and there are many dissenting opinions or if it is the consensus among Savannah breeders.

And how much does registering them for the certificate and getting a pedigree cost?

You don't...and therein lies the problem!

It is odd that this symptom is happening to all 3 of our kittens I assume all of our kittens are fathered by Goat?

I don't know that being fathered by Goat has anything at all to do with this, as it is super unlikely that a URI infection is something that would be inherited from the stud male, like a heart or kidney disorder might be. I am not clear as to whether the three kittens from Taran are litter mates, but given that they are all suffering from similar symptoms, it seems logical that they are all from the same litter....which may have been exposed to something prior to departure...or worse still, it is possible that the entire cattery is infected with something and all of the kittens are coming down with it as well. Not saying this IS the case, but these ARE considerations when several kittens from the same facility are presenting with similar symptoms.

It would behoove the three owners of the kittens to start performing some diagnostic testing to determine WHAT these kittens are suffering from and to also determine whether or not this can be treated or not.

Hi All!
My 1yr old was one of the cats having the sneezing problems. I used Lysine for awhile; it seemed to help a little, but eventually, he grew out of it by 6 months or so. He is completely healthy now! The only thing that concerns me and maybe i shouldn't worry, is that he pretty much stopped gaining weight around 11months. He has grown UP a bit, but not gained weight. He's a lanky fella

Hi Gina, i've been following this thread because I just got a kitten from Taran too. I am glad that your kitten turned out fine. I read somewhere that SVs tend to grow in height during the first 2 years (hence become lanky) then gain weight on the next 2 years. Being lanky is a good sign based on what I've read. It means it'll be a big cat.

Personally, I think the sneezing that happened was caused by the kitten being released earlier, hence still having a sensitive immune system.

I asked Taran if she'll keep my kitten longer (12 weeks) and she agreed.

Not gaining much from 11months to a year... or is he a little more than that now?...is not that unusual. Most domestic cats have quit growing much by a year old. So not all Savannahs grow significantly after a year old. But this might just be in between growth spurts too...so you never know :)

It's important to realize that MOST of the height and size is attained in that first year. Whilst we do see some unusual cases mostly what growth you will see after that first year is an inch or two in height and packing on pounds in bulk...

Yes, the BEST for your kitten is if kept to 12 weeks and hence coming to you with two vaccinations and a more developed immune system. In terms of bonding (and I know people have fixed in their minds that the earlier they get them the better the kitten bonds) at 12+ weeks you have a more outgoing confident personality in the kitten that I believe is more adaptable and less freaked out by the change in home and humans. The only downside I see to having a breeder keep the kitten those extra weeks is if that breeder does not do a good job with socializing in which case that would be more weeks of not getting good human time. I don't believe I have heard that from Taran's kittens hence I think the kitten would do better for being there for those extra weeks.

I agree about these issues being

He's about 11lbs right now at a little over a year old. He's about 12 inches from shoulder to floor, so IMO, he's seems tall to me. Then again, I don't really have anything to compare his height to :)

Hello all!

I'm new to this thread and just got a kitten from Taran this week. She's quite little but a lovely little thing with a gorgeous personality.

But here's the drawback: She came to me flea ridden. Taran assured me she had started her on Revolution and I'd have no issues, but judging from the amount of fleas on her when she arrived this is hard to believe.

I immediately took her to a local vet and got her 2nd round of kitten shots and Revolution reapplied. But I'm just appalled. Who let's a kitten get fleas? And who let's her get fleas so bad that she has a bald spot on her back?! I'm disgusted both with the fleas & with Taran.

Just thought I'd share in cause anyone is considering buying from this woman. I was greatly misled.

On hopefully a lighter note, how are everyone's kittens doing? Did those coughs clear up? Any health issues? I was horrified to read an earlier post that said their kitten died!!! I'm really just on high alert now and trying to look out for any future problems...

I hope you get your flea infestation under control quickly! You are wise to keep a close watch on your little one for any future problems. In the meantime we'd love to see pics of her!
