F1 Bengal kitten

Well I looked back at my SV's lineage and I found one Bengal.

But people frown upon it these days for a lot of reasons related to the breed standard. Ideally, we should want all SV's to be at the SBT level, the ALC gene is known to stunt the SV's growth, the rosette and marbled attributes of a Bengal don't fit in with the guidelines, and last but not least, fertile SVs are easy enough to come by these days that there's no reason to mix in another cat.

People really aren't looking for marbled SV's (well...they're not looking for marbled Bengals either) - and if you've got a Bengal anywhere in the lineage, there's always that small chance that you'll produce a kitty which is probably worth 25% less than its siblings. Personally, I love having cats that don't have the same pattern or coloring - I've got a marbled Bengal, a "Cinny"-like Bengal, and then my SV. And my "next" one would be a melanistic SV. But for breeders, it's harder to sell the kittens if they're not huge (cringes as breeders jump me for pointing that out) and don't have the right spots.

Have to disagree somewhat about marbled when it comes to Bengal's, a lot of ppl go ga ga over them. There is a standard for them, the idea is not to have the bulls eye, so it has a long look to it, with spots. tri-color like one in this pic, spots on belly, Bengal shape etc.
I personally like the rosettes way better, but it is interesting that it is the same genetic 'mutation'? that cause's the striping in the king cheetah that causes the striping on the backs of the marbled Bengals

There is probably more than one Bengal. you just are not seeing it in the 5th generation pedigree ;)

So how huge is "huge" I was wondering if guardcat might have a little savannah in him, although I just pretty much figure he is just a big brown bengal. Weighs something like 23 pounds or so. Dwarfs my little girl as seen in this pic. Does have more of an undercoat which Kia definatly lacks. He's a rescue cat, definitly mostly bengal.
Whoops, wrong pic, how does one delete a pic on here? After edite option is gone that is.

Well the ALC gene doesn't always stunt a cat's growth :p. My bro has a 16-17 lb Bengal...but it's also half some other breed (a Pixie-Bob? Neither my bro or I can remember, but I do distinctly remember telling him to make sure his Bengal had a proper tail).

My F3 savannah Newton, has Bengal in him....his mother was a F2 savannah and his dad was a Bengal. Select Exotics were using Bengals in their breeding program it looked like back then. Newton looks like a Bengal with loooooong legs... his ears arn't real big either but he is the size of a F1 savannah. His mother had real long legs and her name was Stretch!:) He will be 9 yrs old Sept.5,2013.

Diane, I have a F5 from SE that is coming up on 9 years, and that cat does have some Bengal ancestors (also a shorter, stubby and smaller ear cat). My more recent (3 years) F3 boys have Keystone as the serval, and SV's all the way back 4 generations, with spotted tabbys showing up in the fifth generation. Depends which line you get from SE.

My F3 has rosettes and big green eyes but I also noticed that the end of his tail was bent and SE said his mom bit him there when he was tiny. I like the solid black spots tho, they look more like servals. They have an Elite F1 for sale on the website now......WOW...I would love to have him. He is priced at 23,000!
