Finding if a breeder is tica registered and uncertainty

Apparently I'm being discrimated against because I had to euthanize my dog due to her bad breeding. I'm heart broken.

How exactly are you being discriminated against?

Was there something documented wrong with your dog? Really bad hips? Um, otherwise, sorry-- off the top of my head, I cannot see how bad breeding would force one to put down an animal unless it was very ill.

I am sorry you feel discriminated against, but I can ensure you-- it is a tough job as a breeder to pick out good homes and sometimes, things raise red flags. Perhaps if you explained more about what happened with your dog I could help you see things from a different angle?

I bought her under the assumption she was a purebred gsd... Backyard breeder. I got her at 12 weeks old from a supposed cop. She was a great dog up until she reached seven months old. As she got older I figured out she was mixed with a blue heeler...
Bad breeding in a dog aggression forms between the ages of seven to eleven months. This was the case for Gretta. We tried everything. Group training, doggy boot camp, in home trainer, at the trainers, vet checks, shock collars, positive negative reinforcement.
The last straw was the week before she was put down...she turned on me. Keep in mind she's my baby and I had exasperated all routes of recovery.


She was a threat to my fiancées kids, him, anyone and now importantly me. She was almost a year and a half when she died. Poor girl. The worse part was that it was Jekyll and Hyde she would snap get reprimanded then wouldn't have a clue why.

I couldn't rehome her she was a threat.

I'm sorry for the post but I feel penalized for alleviating my dogs pain and keeping my kids safe. Not to mention I feel like it was wrong? I'm just upset

As a breeder- I am not saying you did something wrong, but my thoughts are...

A. Why didn't you contact a rescue and see if they could take her? I understand-- you say she was aggressive, but if she had not drawn blood on anyone-- a rescue might have been able to take her and work with her. Not an easy fix-- finding one that would do it, but I'd want to understand why she wasn't placed into a rescue.

B. Do you have copies of her vet records stating you went in to double-check on her health? Sometimes, health issues can cause aggression.

C. Do you have the trainers' information for me to contact to find out you did indeed follow their advice on working with your dog? (Not me personally- but if I was looking at placing a kitten with you-- I might want this info).

Also-- were you honest from the start with the breeder about this? Probably- I'd toss it all on the table about her (your pup) when you contact someone, saying you already have dealt with bad BYBers and the results of the situation.

Anyways- I am sorry for your loss of your dog and your feelings right now. Please ensure most breeders simply want nothing but the best for their babies and sometimes, things worry them and rightly so. I'd rather a breeder be too cautious versus not cautious enough.

All I can really say is-- toss it on the table when you are talking to breeders. Put it out there-- this is what I've dealt with-- I don't want to ever go through this again.

She tried to rip my four year old daughters face and hand off numerous times for no reason.

I contacted numerous rescues but none would take her because she's aggressive. There was more than enough blood drawn.

I've never cried so hard. It dug deep. I don't like when my character is questioned.

I didn't hide it from the breeder. She asked if I had dogs. I explained about Gretta. I was just about to send a deposit.

The vet was the one who said to put her down.


Also none of the above questions were asked. It was money first then a question about dogs then a delayed no.

I don't train nor rescue dogs, but as a person that has spent years rescuing cats I feel uncomfortable when someone says they tried "everything", it's a common refrain when we are contacted about surrendering a cat and it hardly ever means that all avenues were tried. So for me that would be a red flag too. Without anyone knowing you, that is a big claim to make. Better to acknowledge that maybe there were some training techniques, different households, someone with more time to spend...

A vet might have suggested euthanasia, that doesn't make that a good vet nor does it make them correct in that advice. And that doesn't answer the question on whether any testing was done by the vet to see if there was a medical cause for the behavior. Undiagnosed illness or pains etc.

And yes, like Trish I'd probably want to contact the trainer(s) you'd worked with the dog... I'm protective of my cats and so when I choose a home I tend to be very careful. Within rescue and even my own cattery, I've seen cases where what the behaviorist discovers is the situation is very different from the story being told by the owners. And when it comes to my kittens, I don't want to make the error of being too trusting....

Like I said no questions were asked after I told the story. She already had been tried in different homes.

This dog was my baby, why would I not try everything? So basically I'm going to be labeled as the chick who killed her dog and blacklisted for everyone who viewed this or who was in correspondence with the breeder?

I hope you can step back and understand WHY this might be of concern to a breeder, and why questions might well be asked. Our rescue application asks about previous pets and we want to know what happened to them also.

As to your question "why would I not try everything?" There are many many reasons why a pet owner does not bestir themselves for a pet and chooses euthanasia over other options. In Rescue we get emails telling us that their kitty is "like their own child" but if we don't find them a new home by the end of the week they are going to the kill shelter.

I know of no blacklists, nor do I think discrimination is a relevant term here.

I understand you guys want the best. I just went through a lengthy process of finding the purfect fur baby.

I did everything I could and I still feel the pain of losing her everyday.

She'd asked if I had a dog. Not what options rescues vet records etc. I can provide numerous phone numbers and contacts on Greta's condition
