Girls vs. boys

I have 2 boys and 2 girls.

Each one of them is different.

Baby Girl - She has the biggest mouth I have ever heard. She did nothing but cry when I drove her home the first day and she didn't want anything except to be out of that carrier. When she got fixed at the vet they called me to beg to come get her and I heard her crying in the background. She only does this when she is unhappy so here at home she hardly ever does this. She is very sweet and loveable and talkative and drama free. You can't hold her though, lol. She doesn't hold any grudges which is amazing. If something happens she doesn't like, once it's over she walks away like nothing happened. This has happened when Simba tries to start things with her or Nala or my husband tries to hold her (he knows she won't give in but he keeps trying).

Nala (Girl) Nala is the sweetest thing I think I have ever owned. She is very loveable and very smart. She holds grudges but is not a drama queen. She just kind of takes care of business until it's done.

Abu (Male) he is the most laid back and gets along with everyone including the dogs. When my beagle barks at him because she can get funny at times Abu rolls over almost as if to say "Get over it."

Simba - (Male) he is also laid back and doesn't get mad at anything. I only saw him hiss once and that was when I introduced him to Abu for the first time. Otherwise he is consistently a happy camper.

Simba and Abu do seem to be challenging each other lately, I think to see who is in charge. Neither of them back down and then run off playing. The girls do not seem to care much, they both go about their business and have little disagreements here and there.

I do want to add a 5th in the future and it will be a female. I want a female because the addition of Abu has taken away Simba's girlfriend, Nala. Also since Simba and Abu both want to be in charge, I don't want another male to that.

Great description, Karen! Seems like you have a mix of laid-back girls as well. I am hoping to have a litter of kittens this spring and maybe I will have a better idea of the male-female thing. I think the spayed and neutered cats may be a bit different, but not sure.

Yes, it does make a difference being altered. I found Missy (my F1) really settled down a lot after spaying. She has even come to love JN when before she only loved him when in heat ;-)

I prefer the male savannahs over females... They aren't as fussy and dainty... one day I can pet her, then an hour later she runs away when I come near.. The male will always want attention and seems more personable. He sits with me on the couch, hops in the shower, lay on my shoulders like a fur coat... she keeps her distance and on occasion will sit by me, even when the male is not around.

I think I would agree with where most of this is going so far - boys are my preference.

I grew up with 2 drama queen female DSH, and they were very territorial, peeing all over my mom's house and loving you only when they want food, or cuddles when its cold. Otherwise when they were done with you petting them, they would get up and leave. One would even hiss and swat at children if she didn't like how they were petting her.

From that point I considered myself more of a dog person, trainable and loyal. Then Alisha got solo, and I realized boys can be laid back and sweet, I just had some bad experiences with the female cats I grew up with. Then I got Keljin :)

He purrs every time I pick him up, he is my little puppy dog following me wherever I go. Even if he is busy playing or getting into mischief, he will run back into the room I am in to check on me occasionally, jump up and give me a few kisses, then return to play time. He isn't very demanding, and he is actually quite submissive and emotional! If I yell or need to scruff him he throws his ears back and squints his eyes like the saddest puppy dog ever and hunches up to tell me hes soooo soooorrry, then he will purr and lick me until he feels we have made up, then its back to playtime. He is just the biggest love bug I have ever had in any pet ever!

My Kronos is very sensitive too! Solo is a very sweet laid back kind of guy, but he definitely has mastered being extra sweet when he wants something... and gosh Kronos is picking up on that behavior too haha.

I've always had male cats. My husband had a female cat when we first started dating and she was so annoying! She cried all the time and was also bipolar! I've had great luck with the personalities of males so that's why we chose a male Savannah. Hoping he is as awesome as the breeder keeps telling me is! 2 more weeks!
