With cats i have much experience.
I had cats since i can remember.
On the other hand i don't have alot of experience with trouble cats, all my cats grow out fine.
I even took wild cats from the street in and they turned sweet very quickly
I am very meditative and for my it ain't no problem to just sit on the floor all weekend doing nothing but paying attention to the kitten.

I just spoke with somebody who knows the breeder.
He knows the mother and he said in this case it is wise to put the mom aside.
No one here is questioning pulling the kittens from the Mom- from what you are describing, YES, pull the kittens from the Mom.

What we are worried about- or at least, what I am worried about- is waiting until almost 8 weeks to pull kittens from a Mom who isn't friendly or social.

Look- I have three week old kittens and they already scurry up to me to talk to me! That is how early kittens can recognize humans and decide they are nice. (I'm sure they figure it out earlier, but it's funny watching the little ones wobble over!). Seven-eight weeks is cutting it very very close.

And once again, I reiterate, anyone who has been breeding for a while should not be placing kittens that young. It is not the best option for the kittens and isn't that what we all want?

Niels, one of my kittens went to the Netherlands recently, but the buyers came and picked him up, taking him back on the plane with them...I just do not feel comfortable shipping one of my kittens in cargo..but that is just me. Other breeders do it all the time.

it could be that you need to be patient also...there are some very good breeders in belgium and the Netherlands as well as France, so you have many good choices in your area.

I completely agree with Trish...my kittens were recognizing my voice a bit earlier because I cared for them completely when their mother was sick and hospitalized...as a matter-of-fact, I recently went to visit one of my kittens, whom I have not seen in over 3 months...he was friendly as usual, but as soon as I spoke to him, he immediately recognized me, running and jumping on me and kissing my face...of course, I cried because it was so beautiful and heartwarming, but I also did not think he would remember me.

Well, for me, as long as its still a kitten, it should be able to be trained, turned around. Gotta just love it all the time, spend lots of time with it, teach it. But then again, I am NO expert! I just think every little girl or guy needs a chance to be loved and cared for, whether it be you or someone else. Wish you didn't have to be dealing with so much drama of getting a Savannah. I wish you all the luck.

While it is true that SOME progress can always be made, the reality is that if you miss that window that Shelby mentioned between 4 and 7 weeks you miss a critical period for kitten socialization. I don't believe you ever truly make that up, you can bring that kitten around a little...bring them to trust you in certain circumstances but you will not have the same kitten that you would have if the kitten had had constant human contact from birth. But, individual kittens react differently, I think that Niels has said that when he met the kittens the male was easier than the female. They would have had the same handling one would think yet already there is a difference in behavior. So possibly some kittens will come around better than others...it's a gamble. And it is up to Niels as to whether he feels lucky in this respect I think :)

Oke girls another question.

A breeder told me, its a bad thing to vaccinate with a living virus.
If i remember correctly my breeder planned to do that. (i will check this again)

Does everybody agree it should be a Dead virus vaccin or is there much discussion around this ?

Our breeder told us to make sure it is a DEAD virus. She also said not to just take the vet's word for it...to make sure we read the vial before allowing the vaccination.

I just saw there is also a discussing starting on the virus in the FIP topic.
What a sad story, i really feel bad of the thought that these things happen.

The story there is making me only more scared of the virus, i just send an email to my breeder.

Thank the good Lord, I've never had to deal with FIP, but the stories from those who have are heartbreaking. Our breeder told us that the use of a live virus on Savannahs has the opposite effect, and can result in the disease itself. That's why it's so important to read the label on the vaccination, to ensure that the virus is dead.
