Help assesing F3 Kitten quality

But what you need to understand is that Studs get jowls because they are not neutered. Your kitten will not have that jowly look...also a 10-11 week old kitten is going to change by 16 weeks...and change again months later and even a year or two later.

His ears are not rounded on the top and do not stand upright but outward, he is a bit more bengally looking, but he is adorable!

What exactly are you looking for? If you want an F3 that looks more like the standard we strive for, then this kitten may not be the one for you. But if you want a savannah kitten that is adorable, then he fits the bill nicely.

To be fair, if we decide to get an F3 we would prefer it to look like it as well - specially the body composure. (the price of the kitten btw is similar to prices other breeders give me for a f4 or f5. Another F3 we checked is much better in standards but unfortunately also more expensive and therefor out our budget.
If you look at the parents you will see what I mean. I see this little cute fella short like his father rather than tall and "leggy" like his mother. Then again perhaps he will grown suddenly after 16 weeks old since they keep growing till 3 years of age as i have read.

You have answered your own question I think - if you want an F3 that 'looks like' an F3, meaning closer to the written Standard, then you need to expect to pay the price for that.

When in doubt.. wait!

You are going to pay enough for a Savannah that if you have any thoughts that make you think this isn't the one- wait it out :) Trust me- the right one will be there!

Adding pictures of the mother(f2) and father (f6c)...I am afraid he will be more like his father , than like his mother ...
Mum´s a beauty, dad could be a little more savanneze, but the important thing is: Do you like the kittie? You´re not going to breed him...

Hi George, the kitten is a cutie! I agree with others' assessments of his quality. And yes, his legs could grow longer as he gets older.

For a pet Savannah, go with your heart. If the kitten is healthy and well-socialized, within your budget, you are satisfied with the breeder and you are head over heels in love with him, go for it. Otherwise, wait for the "One" kitten that you just KNOW will be yours :)

Thank you a lot for your comments. We are still a mess, 2 kittens that we thought would be the one slipped right through our fingers, into the hands of 2 breeders here in Europe. F5SBT beautiful kittens, photos here:

Mighty and Cavaluccio.
Meanwhile I have done a vast research on savannah's and the result is we cant take a proper decision.
I think Trish is right, perhaps we will wait a bit longer and look around some more. I am waiting on some pictures from the breeder in Norway, as soon as he gets back from his vacation in 10 days or so.

For what it is worth, none of my babies are perfectly in line with breed standard- our f3 boy has a white locket, our f4 boy is snow, and our f5 boy has a tail that is so long it drags ion the ground- but to me, they are the three most perfect, most wonderful boys in the world, that I love with all my heart. Go with your gut. For me, how close my kitties were to breed standard only mattered while I was looking at photos- once they arrived, they wrapped their little paws around my heart and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I personally think it an error to prefer an F3 that is priced like an F4 or F5 if the quality of the F3 is not of a good F3...in that case you should simply be comparing the quality of it to F4s and F5s...and the reality of our breed's development means that indeed some F5s (especially SBTs) can look every bit as good as an F3 kitten can...and my recent experience is that they can grow just as big also. It truly depends on the quality of the breeding cats behind them.

I also think there is an element of fate in the process...the right kitten will come to you if you are patient. If you have missed out on a kitten it was not meant for you. It's hard to wait but you will have that cat for years and years after all :)

Nikkia I totally agree that once the kitten will arrive, the colors wont matter anymore. This is the reason we need to make the right selection before we bond. I think that ANY cat will be loved the same by us, that doesn't change the fact that we want him to become gorgeous and big :) . We will continue searching as I also agree with Brigitte's comment.
